Why are there no carbon ferrules?

Hi,

did anyone try this yet?
I could not find any information on why there are no carbon ferrules on standard cues.
I might've seen some breakers have them, but I'm not sure if it was linen melamine instead.

Pro:
Very light, very stable, very workable
Black (!) so there's nice contrast.

Contra:
Could not think of any yet.

Expensive to make compared to alternatives
Tiny demand
No performance advantage over existing materials
Pool players are too cheap

Just because it could be done does not mean it should be done.
A challenge a German engineer would go for :grin:
 
- It is not lighter then several other ferrule materials
- It is much less impact resistent then other ferrule materials
- It is more expensive then most other ferrule materials (though not all that much)
- It is harder to work with being so brittle, cutting threads for example is going to be a challenge.

Simply put, it is not a good ferrule material at all.

Since you are interested in one why not make and try one?

Here is a story about Henry Ford.

He had one of the worlds largest private railroads for his facilities. The wood ties needed constant replacement so he asked why they couldn't use concrete ties. He was told that they wouldn't work. He didn't believe his engineers and had a mile of track laid down with concrete ties. The train ran a few hundred yards and derailed. He was now convinced.

Fast forward to today. They are now trying and using some form of concrete ties for railroads.

Try and develop one and you maybe sucessful, Edison, Ford, Wright Bros and many others had more failures than successes but when they hit the right one they a winner but they also kept improving on that product.

The ones sold today are very thin. To get ones made for ferrule specs would be very expensive.
And the demand for black ferrules would not be great.
