Why are there so few black pro players..?

I’m not an Animal, Asshole. It’s obvious that you are uncomfortable discussing matters of Race, but keep your ignorant, racist, regencies, to your Damn self, Neanderthal Knuckle-dragger. I don’t need your permission to give my opinion, I spoke about the subject at hand, giving my opinions, but I never called you out of your name, Idiot. Can’t you discuss Pool, without insulting others when you have different opinions? Where did you go to school? Have you ever heard of a Debate?
The only one being uncomfortable with discussing race seems to be you as you did not answer my question. But I have another one for you: How come black people make for 14% of the population but commit 50% of the crimes? Now, relax, take a deep breath, don't insult but answer the question...

Is there an explanation why so few black players seem to have interest pool at professional level..?

I stayed away from posting in this thread not because I didn’t have anything to share but because I got a negative vibe from the way the original question was posed. I’ve read through just about every post, and while some people here have shared really good insights, it took 12 pages for your trolling intentions to finally come through crystal clear with your latest comment.

I don’t need or want anyone to take my side here - There’s already plenty being said on both sides when honest there actually should not have been any sides to this thread if the title was altruistic. There are people that I respect that have posted from jump that said this was a ridiculous thread, I think because of they way question was posed, and there are people on this thread that I respect that have posted because they tried to inform and share pool history. The thread could have unfolded with an actual inquisitive question about black pool players from the start (but I didn’t get that vibe) instead, the thread has unfolded exactly the way you wanted it to.

I don’t know if others have noticed but I sort of see a pattern in the way you operate. It’s called trolling. Why don’t you just get on here and make statements… I’d actually have a little more respect for you even if I didn’t agree with you.

Over and out.

Uhm...but your respect is completely unimportant to me..?

And what is ridicolous about the thread..?Do tell...

Other than that, what you read into postings, negative vibes and patterns you feel you see may better adressed by your shrink or a Voodoo priest and if you have a better or more ''altruistic'' way of wording why so few black players have an interest in professional pool feel free to share it.

But my guess is youre just another woke guilt ridden wannabe abolitionist that gets offended if he reads the word ''black'' and we'll not hear from you again...

Yeah, this is my first post in this thread. While I find the history of black pool players fascinating, I thought this thread had a strong chance to dissolve into a shit show sooner than it did so I didn't post. There were some legendary names in pool and if you have a chance to see any videos there are some guys that could flat out play.

IMO nowadays it's mostly down to demographics. There are generally more black people in larger population centers and there are less and less local pool halls in those places anymore. If you live in a place with no pool halls, there is nowhere to play.

A lot of the old time black players gambled because there were opportunities they were shut out from due to their race. They literally couldn't play tournaments with white players due to segregation. After that ended there was still a couple of decades of them not being welcomed, even in places like churches. You had a lot of the "oh I want them to have equality but I don't want to be around them" type stuff. Kind of like the NIMBY (not in my backyard) stuff with new affordable housing/apartments being built today.

Honestly though, in my experience most pool players couldn't care less about race. If a person is a good dude and respectful of the game he could be green for all most pool players care. Pool is a passion that unites people regardless of their differences or ethnicity. I have more in common with another pool player than a stranger off the street. At least if we both like pool we have something in common to talk about or start a conversation with no matter what other differences there are.

I think somebody here said there's no money in pool. <==== If not, then there it is. Given that, black - um Humanoids of African ancestry seem to have the genetics for activities that offer a better shot at better money; often for starting pay. Football, Ball ball, Boxing, even running promises a good payoff for hard work. Compare to pool anytime...
You weren't referred to as an animal, someone used the metaphor of not feeding animals with regards to not adress you in order to prevent you from throwing more verbal tantrums...geeez...

The thread was never about race until someone decided to make it so and that someone wasn't me.

Mysteriously to you, Black players grew up idolizing Mosconi, Hoppe, Greenleaf, Buddy, Siegel, Strickland, and others, like Bugs, Rags, Strawberry, and more, but we didn’t say, he’s the “White Champion’, we worshipped and idolized the same players as anyone else. We just understood that if we just got the right to vote, and integrate the schools in 1965, and Cisero just got to play in his first U. S. Open in 1966, beat Balsis, Jimmy Moore, and Lassiter in Straight Pool in 1965, something had to be wrong. You, would not see it, although the players that protested for Cisero obviously did.
Dude you are nuttier than squirrel shit. And yes the NPR section is a zoo/dumpster fire. You should feel right at home there. Wow.

Telling the truth is not Ripping into people. You need facts and truth in any meaningful conversation. It’s not my responsibility to Sugarcoat the truth, and I didn’t lie on anybody. I love Pool as much as anyone else, and I admired, followed, worshipped, and looked up to the same players that you did. The truth is, until 1966, Black players couldn’t play in the U.S. Open, and Michael Jordan, and all other Blacks, were not allowed to go to North Carolina or Duke, in the 1960’s, just like in Pool! It’s stupid, racist, and ignorant! That’s not pointing a finger at anyone on this Forum, but it’s the truth. Opportunity just wasn’t granted. That’s all, and it can’t be denied.
I was talking about/to Garczar. I think he knows that our thoughts often clash, but sometimes he carries himself in a particularly abhorrent way. The comment he made was one of those. Just made me feel gross reading it.

Agree with you. I am always open to listening to, and understanding another's world view.

I think he is just animated and obviously passionate about this topic, and the thread has become a bit of a dumpster fire that is too hot to handle. I appreciate his efforts to explain his thoughts/rationale. I mean, in between the word salad, I agree with the general sentiment. But he did assume I was being negative toward him, when I was being negative to your comments Gar (but I feel we have a some regular disagreements laced into at least a little respect for each other lol)

Not really.

For example, had I asked why are all top 100 meter sprinters black, the answer would be that they genetically have more fast twitch muscle fibres, so their race makes them superiour in that sport. In pool that does not apply, not to blacks, not to whites.Sound good?

No, sounds ridiculous. You'll be one of the people who argue "WoMeN sEe CoLoUrS bEtTeR bUt MeN aRe BeTteR aT aImInG" I'm not getting sucked into this dead weight, but I hope in the future there are more opportunities for all people to play the game we enjoy.

ike you are an old timer and a great pool player. still are and that is admirable. but few here are prejudice. let it go man. you are right blacks were ostracized until later on. you weren't. but now the general populace in pool anyway doesn't give a dam about race.

What does '' "WoMeN sEe CoLoUrS bEtTeR bUt MeN aRe BeTteR aT aImInG" '' mean..?
