Why bother with casinos that you have to pay for all kinds of stuff, like renting and moving tables in, $100's to hang each light and other BS. Nice sportsbars are the way to go, in states that allow Calcutta's. The purse for the Diamond BB tournament at the Carom Room has a $100 entry and 76K purse with Calcutta and the same tournament had a 16 man $400 entry mini with a Calcutta. Most of the best players in the U.S are there, so they must like it.
Most of the big ones so far this year have been on the BB, but I see no reason that large poolrooms and sportbars with 9' tables can do the same thing. If the owner himself/herself can't run the tournament their self...hire a good TD to run it. I wish more players and fans would support these kind of venues. It's good for pool and probably bad for promoters. I figure with money from stream and a small gate fee or drink min., it could work in a lot of places. Johnnyt
