Why did the USA get a medal?

I am sorry, but I just think it is really silly that the losing team also gets a medal (in a competition with only 2 teams involved).

There are only 2 teams competing, so why should both teams receive a medal?

The USA really played great though, I thought.

Was really surprised at how great Skyler played.

He is such a great player, and I hope his game keeps improving.

I really enjoyed watching the Mosconi Cup this year.

It was great.

Yes they do, but not only 3 are competing! But as another one says right here, if you are insulted with receiving a silver medal, return the 10k $ check as well!

Medal of Participation and Token of appreciation their dedication to the game.
Not many have this much dedication.

How much time do any of us put into this game, on and off the table.

This wasn't a medal for being on a T-Ball team.

I do not think they would feel insulted for receiving the medal, but they might not think they deserve a medal for 2nd place in a 2 team competition . The 10k check is not silly, but I just thought the silver medal was. It is not a medal that they would be proud to show off to people. It is like "hey, check out the silver medal that I won at a 2 team competition that I played in". Sorry, it just seemed silly to me. They sure did give Europe a good fight though. Many hill hill matches. Could have easily gone the other way I think. Anything can happen in a race to 5 with 2 elite players playing each other. Too short of a race I think. Should be a race to 7 at the minimum.

It's a momento. It's nice to get a souvenir that they'll be able to look back on and remember that they were good enough to be on the team

It's an honor to be chosen for the team and the medal is a small and deserving commemoration of it.

That's excatly correct its not s liberal participation Medellin its a medal of achievement they earned the right to be there through thier play they deserve a reward
Hopefully other players see this and strive to get on the team completion breeds the best of the best

Lighten up guys -- this is not the same thing as a participation medal that all of our kiddos get every time they do something.

This was a way to acknowledge the players for EVEN making it onto a Mosconi Cup team. This is something very few American players will ever be lucky enough to experience....scratch that....very few will ever be GOOD enough to experience.

They are deserving of some recognition.

Yes, you are second out of 2 with a silver medal here, but you fought so damn hard all year to get here! People from both teams are participating in tournaments in their continent and literally around the world for a ticket to be in Mosconi, and even end up 2nd out of the 2!
There have been many many players who only participated once in their career, and I'd like to believe that they were proud of their silver medal!

Yeah, you are right. I did not think of that. At the time, I just thought it was out of the ordinary. This was the 1st Mosconi Cup that I have watched the end of. I am not sure if both teams received a medal in the past, or if this is something new that they did this year.

Yeah, you make some great points. Thanks for pointing that out. They should get a medal for earning a spot on the team. They really played great too.

LoL agree with your original post
They already get $10K even when they lose so I doubt loser will cry if they do not get Medal
If the medal is to show appreciation that they qualify for their respective team , the medal ceremony should have been before this main event. They could have medalling ceremony and sending off ceremony to give out these team qualification medals

This is the latest. Every school and organization and sports team is now doing it.
From spelling bees and drawing and music competitions to football games.
Liberalism is a mental disorder....and it's only gonna get worse.
Soon you'll get a trophy just for showing up.
