why do people pay 40% to director?

Reading GSBT and seen they take $24 out of $60. That is 40% of the players money. Just wonder why people play in tourney like that. Winner of tourney gets $1000. They walk away with $2K to $3K. Just really don't understand. Please explain.

If you can do it for less, go for it. If you don't like it, don't play.

If I am running my own little tournament I don't see a reason to pay someone but if it is one of those guys running a small tour and they bring the show to your place I can see it. They do everything from run the tournament to score boards to scheduling and so on. You just sit back and worry about your business. They earn their money.
40% sounds like a lot but who knows.
