Funny I always put the 2 in the back because it ends up in the middle of the table and the 1 rolls to the bottom corner. I only use a medium speed break though.
I actually rack the 2 ball as the 2nd ball on the opposite side from which Im breaking and I put the 3 in the back.
1 ball comes up table towards to pocket like you said. 2 ball goes 1 rail possibly cross side, if it doesnt go in it stays mid table or even comes up closer to the 1. 3 ball bounces off the back rail and comes up table as well provided nothing stops it.
Thats how I rack provided the tournament/action doesnt designate to 2 in the back as mandatory.
