Why Do We Need Better Cues?

Nah, that's just one of the excuses we use to validate the decision. Keep in mind that you could buy that $1,500 car and add one seriously bad ass engine onto the car for the extra $38,500. I think I would rather have that car than the $40,000 stock car.

you could buy an $8 watch from Walgreen's and send it to a Swiss jeweler to put in better movement too.....but; just messin' w/ya man ;)

Ironworker - my wife like Coach bags too - which is much better than her liking the ultra trendy (read: need replaced every "season") SUPER-pricey bags.....two words for ya - SAM'S CLUB. you're welcome!

Just need to explain to the ladies that buying cues happens to be our female moment. Whenever we be a high priced custom cue we are reaaaaally showing our sensitive side.

Not better-but the right cue

I had a young impressionable person (APA 3) ask what the "best cue" was so he could buy it. I said there is no "best cue" the right question is whats the right cue for you? Since I had a custom cue that must be the best right? I proceeded to show him the best way I knew how.

I took a cueball and an object ball placed them 3 diamonds apart.

Told the "APA 3" use my "custom cue" hit the object ball and draw back to where you started from. With my "custom cue" he hit the object ball and the cueball just stopped

The house cue I handed him 1 diamond back
The schon 2 1/2 diamonds
the vicking 2
and a "supped up" Meucci he drew back the 3 diamonds.

So his comment to me "that this was a way better cue than my custom one" he saw it with his own eyes.

But I took the Meucci showing him the same test and honestly tried to stop back 3 diamonds I went 2 table lengths. That cue was juiced way to much for MY needs

I pointed out just like NASCAR there are different car setups for different drivers that doesn't mean 1 is right or wrong, better or worse it's just setup for the needs of that particular driver. Odds are if you change drivers and cars they won't win.

P.S. that APA 3 is now a 5 and has a different cue

P.P.S. Now begins the fun quest for you to find the "right cue" for you "right now"

great so you messed up his team with your explanations ;)

anyhow I see it this way... I am very sensitive to how a cue feels, rather than other stuff..

If the balance, hardness and tip suit as much as the taper, I would like to play a cue with printed points as much as a $3000 custom cue...
The actual differences in the price are part of how much work was invested (like inlays and such) and which kind of materials were used and so on... the advantage of a custom stick would be that the cue is made to feel right to you...
If you buy a mass production cue, take it in your hand, play and if it feels good, it is worth the money you want to invest^^

I concur!

I've owned a Tim Scruggs, a Murray Tucker, a Mike Lambros and a Josswest. All of which cost considerably more than the cue I play with and also they all hit great! But they were not right for me, I play my best pool with an original Z shaft that I have on a PS-17 Pechaeur, and the only reason I went with that is I just like the way it looked! I could have put a Z shaft on a $30 players and got the same hit, which is the best hit for me! So don't spend more than you WANT to, it is only show, and respect for time put into the cue! Find what works for you, and if you do, you won't care about price, whether it is $30 or $3000!

thats what I meant, do not invest money to exepct a better cue (of course it should be a reasonable quality), invest in what feels good (as long a syou can afford and you like the looks, since if you don't you will feel awkward with the stick too..)

It makes a hell of a difference and that's what you tell my wife if she asks.

That is not what I told her that the other night. I said that helps to get you out of the house.:rotflmao1:

Sorry! Just couldn't refuse posting that. Seriously. I don't know you or your wife. :nono:

But if I ever meet you I will buy you a drink and tell your wife that you need a new cue to improve your game.:ok:

Jason Klatt plays with an old worn out Huebler with a cracked buttcap covered in duct tape. He still kicks a lot of peoples asses in pool?:confused::confused:

Although my wife has a McD that's almost $100 more than me.... I still like the feel and balance of mine. I guess I'll just keep the one I have and shop around for shafts. Of course, I'd like a shaft that adds about 2 inches to the cue...and it's a pretty standard pin (I believe it's 5/16)...Spend the money on the shaft and leave the butt alone?

God...pool always sounds so dirty.
