I'd expect there to be a fairly smooth learning curve. To borrow from Gordon Lightfoot "does anyone know where the love of God goes when" you try to learn this game?

Pool is never one curve, you have to break into several curves, this is not all:
Aiming and different types of strokes and grips, with the elevation factor
Theory of squirt, throw, stun......and few other things
Pocketing balls, that has few curves (once you are able to pocket all 4000 shots possibilities you graduate from pocketing)
position play
banks
safeties
jumps
game strategy
Got to take it one at a time-
Some pool shots do not require thinking much, go down and shoot, some are complicated and require to apply everything magic (that is where a good brain is required), if you forget one check list item, you will miss the ball.
