Why In Canada and Not in U.S. ?

The BCA is recognized by the WPA. But the BCA does nothing and should be relieved of their position, and get some people in there that are interested in doing things for the pool players. They are only concerned about the pool industry.

There needs to be a new org. that is only concerned with the players and until that is done I see pool going nowhere.

I wonder how long they (the BCA) will be allowed to keep doing nothing and still stay in that position. They should have been relieved of their position as the recognized ass. by the WPA years ago.

If I'm wrong please point out what they do for the players, I for one have a hard time seeing it. Case in point OP in this thread! Why not in the U.S.?

Your not wrong, but I think the BCA would love to be relieved of their WPA duties. They are an industry group and they don't pretend to be anything else.

They have done a few things with the pro players travel fund and running the points lists. But, if an organization stepped up to take over the points and running the players side of things, the BCA would do it in a heartbeat.(They did it once before with the UPA.)

So the question for me is, when will a group step up and start a real organization that is not a short term, self serving deal. The BCA doesn't want the ball (haven't for a long time), so someone take it.

The CBSA is a far from perfect organization, but I'm thankful their out there trying. They do it all on dues and volunteers and not nearly enough thanks. I wonder if in the U.S.A it would it be possible to find 7-15 national board members and 1-2 representatives per state. Plus a couple pro players, both men and women, to act as liaisons with the pro orgs. That's the number of volunteers you would require to start a grassroots organization. Big job, lots of pitfalls and roadblocks.

The US does have a national governing body for pool that is recognized by the WPA.

OK, sure .... maybe I should have said you don't have a FUNCTIONAL national governing body. If you did you'd have a national championship.

I know what I would like to see.....
...a revival of State championships, these titles were revered at one time.
..but they tended to be 'open' to anyone....I would like to see them
accept only residents of the State ( or territory) where it is held...

Then once a year, have an American championship with only the State
champions competing.

...American citizens only...the BCA could handle the finale....
..it would be up to each State to produce a champion.

The Canadian Championships are coming up. We have 8ball,9ball,10ball and snooker. For men, woman, juniors, and amateurs . U make cash, get a RING, get to represent your country at the worlds. Its a title that nobody can ever take away from you. Why not in the U.S. ?

Attendance?

Attendance?

Not quite sure on exact but amateurs almost fill a 64 field for men. the open events usually get around 32 . Alot of semi pro and strong amateurs like to play in the open ( they may get a chance to play Alex) . The woman and junior fields are a bit smaller.

Question are the championships your talking about straight up or are you talking HDCP, 8Ball, 9Ball, and 10Ball?

I would think you are speaking of non-HDCP events if the winner would represent the country in the worlds.

Why I ask is because I really don't see a lot of people in the U.S. if they has a similar tournament signing up if they had to play even, I think that is unfortunate, but true.

Today in our society people think that they don't have to practice to get good. They just assume that they should get a HDCP if they're not as good. I think this comes from the everybody gets a trophy concept, oh they're to young to keep score, it's not about who wins type thinking.

Then as they get older it's just compounded by the HDCP league concept.

The Canadians turnout is bolstered by the fact that there are provincial championships and the winner and usually runner up in those events win entry, hotel, and travel expenses to the Canadians.

If the USA did the same thing and had state championships with a $150 entry or so and the winners recieved paid trips to the USA Championships then you would likely get a pretty good turnout. Some states might not have much participation but imagine states like New York, Florida, and Calfornia and who would want to play to win their spot to the National Championships. The number of people coming from each state could be proportional to the number of people who compete in the state championships.

It would be a really good way for the USA to start sending a decent contingent of people to the World Championships since of late few American's tend to go. The Canadian Championships are the only reason Canada has had people in the worlds and many other countries like Australia use similar events to decide their representatives to the worlds.
