Why is it always green felt with blue chalk?

Cloth, chalk

I like the way it is too, green cloth, dark blue chalk.

You eyes get used to the cloth color, when aiming for cut angles, etc..

I can handle a couple of other colors with home tables, but not with Billiard room tables, like blue or tan, but that is about it.

Never did like the 'Elephant' balls either, but the Jaguar and Cheetah
9 ball out now is pretty cool.

I misread this & had one of those brainfart moments. I was thinking AZ Billiards labor camps! I had visions of us all being locked in & forced to work on our game!!

I'm just curious why green felt is so popular,
Tradition from lawn games, as others said.

Another thing would be why dont people use green chalk to help keep the felt cleaner longer?
Because it doesn't keep the felt cleaner. Blue chalk normally hides better in the green cloth better than today's green chalk.

Daughter has that on her table. It isn't too bad playing on either:)

I would really like to see a picture of that, with the balls racked on the table.

If any of you black felt guys have a camera on hand.

(off topic) Man, I want a Gabriels 3c table so bad. Though, I'd also like a room big enough to put it in... ;)

I agree with fatboy....How many times have you played on cloth of different colors? It's just supposed to be green. Just try gold or red or God forbid purple or lavender and just listen to the squalls in the pool room. I've been coast to coast and give me green. Just like my cash.

You're not a grumpy ole fart. I'm 23 and I'll move into my first house on June 25th. When I save up the cash for a pool table. For damn sure it will have green felt and blue chalk. The first pool table I ever played on, was my grandfathers. It had green felt and blue chalk.

Kinister's room had all tan cloth
I asked him why he chose tan
and he told me that's what he
and Jesus grew up playing on

edit: i forgot to mention tan masters matched the tan cloth impeccably
oh yeah, and F silvercup. still need to try some of that new fangled triagle
whoozeywhatsit. i couldn't care less what color it is. it all looks like crap if you don't vacuum it up.

Call me crazy, but I like my chalk to match my felt. Long live Tournament Blue Simonis 860 with blue Silvercup chalk!
