Anyone know why  Most of the pool rooms up here are charging $7-10 per hour. Hell, that's more than minimum wage...LOL. How can I get my practice on at that rate  Back home in VA/NC where I'm from, its roughly $3-4 per hour. Well, some places are a little cheaper and/or have all you can shoot deals for certain times of the day but its very few though. Sorry ya'll, I just needed somewhere to vent :p

We pay about $4/hr for one person on the table and a max of $10/hr for 4. Standard bet is $20 sets, winner pays time and buys beers. The house always wins, as it should be.

Try playing in D.C. You'll appreciate the mere $7-$10 rates :D

The rate in Singapore is usually about,

$6.80 per hour,from Open-6pm

and $8.80 per hour,from 6pm-Close

Thats the rate for the pool hall that i played in.They are all in Singapore currency.

Thank You

Once you get as far north as DC you can't find cheap table time. All those great rooms make so much money they can't afford to run a decent tournament. I say we pass a law that they each must have a tournament every year putting in two weeks worth of their gross into the added money. Contact your local Billiard Congressman of America.

In Kansas City it's consistently $10 per hour for more than one person and $6 for a single player.

I try to keep my eyes open for the specials;
At Side Pockets pool is free between 11 AM and 2 PM if you order food
and after 10 PM you can have any table for the rest of the night for a flat $5 fee.

The Rates

I don't want to say it's expensive to play here in the D.C. area but the last joint I went into they asked me if I owned my own home before they'd let me play. Seriously, around D.C. you can blow up to $15.00/hour on weekends. Throw in some nackos and a couple of drinks and it can be as much as a Redskins game!

It's the rent, salaries, insurance, and other overhead items that make it so damn expensive up here.

Wow  How much is it in DC?
Most of the halls have the same owner. The prices vary across their locations a bit, but they're all high. Never less than $6.00/hour for one person. Often $8-10 for one person after 8:00 p.m. And I think two places charge $12.00/hour for one person after 8 on Friday and Saturday.

And the rate for two people isn't that much less, I think $1.00 less per person. (So if it's $6.00/hour for one, it's $10.00 for two).

To make matters worse, there's very few houses in DC that have rooms big enough for a full size table. It's all condos and long, narrow, row houses. So I don't know anyone here with a table.

That's what I figured. In general, cost of living is more expensive up north than down south. At these rates, I'd be better off buying a pool table and practicing at home :D

cuetech i am from up north as well. I live in MA on the MA/NH line. Table time is usually always around 10 beans/hr. There are many vfw/pav/legion places that have tables for free. That is where i get most of my playing in. If you do not work days though there is a place in sommerville,MA called Goodtimes. They have over 60 gold crown tables. They have a deal where it is free to play pool from 10am-6pm monday through friday. I never get to take advantage of that deal since I work days. Just though I would let you know though.

The room I play at in Salt Lake is $2.95 an hour on weekdays and $3.95 an hour on weekends. This is pretty much the average rate for poolrooms in Utah.

I don't think it's that the north is expensive -- I just think that your VA/NC area is ridiculously cheap.

Out here in LA the rates range from $5 - $17 per hour, depending on the number of people and time of day/week. Usually it's around the $10 mark, but at Hollywood it's usually in the $15 range.

It is just what the market will bare. They charge it for one or both of two reasons. 1. is they have to, the cost of operating is so high. 2. they can get it, people are willing to pay. A serious player really needs to have their own table. What other sport could you play at home at an equal standard as you play at a professional establishment. You can't own a golf course, bowling alley or a tennis court. You can however own a pool table for what is really very little money and the price of table time won't matter any more.

$5/hr before 7pm
$13/hr after 7pm

Regardless of the number of people on a table

Appreciate what you have to pay.

Chalks Billiards in West Warwick and
R.I. Billiards
Both reasonable.
Nothing fancy, no hooters, just pool.

Thats pretty good Ross, but you dont count as being up north. :p

Anyways, i pay $3 an hr/person before 6 PM and after 6 PM is $5 an hr/person. If i play in a huge group (which never really happens for me), different hall $8 an hr/table before 6 PM and $10 an hr/table after 6 PM. Of course where i go for the table rate is really shitty, but since its mostly with rec players, it doesnt really matter much.

I go to one place that charges $6.00 to shoot pool from 12:pm to 6:pm and $7.00 on the weekends, then theres another place that charges something like around $10.00 from 10am to like 3pm , but they are in L.I. N.Y. :D
