I noticed you and Chris didn't go to NYC this year, did the blackout scare you guys off? :p You're right about Chris being one of the best players in the state. I try to get up there and play him about once a month. You're usually walking in when I'm leaving (the past 2 or 3 times anyway). Is Troy really moving back to Ohio?
I'll have Chris introduce us next time.

NYC is way too expensive.
they don't ever take that into concideration when they host an event there.
You have to get like 5th place to break even.
If it would have been sanctioned by the UPA I would have gone in a heartbeat.

Shawn,
I agree about the "nut" in NYC. A decent room in NYC is very expensive! but I don't understand what would have been so much better if it'd been UPA sanctioned? Do they pay heavier down the brackets?

I went to the tournament at Grand Central Station last year, only because I decided to attend the RSB tournament that Jimbo put on in CT. KUDOS to Jimbo for putting on the most enjoyable event of this type I've ever attended. Of course winning the Texas Holdem tournament put a big smile on my face, on my birthday no less! We took the train in to the city a couple of days. I'll be real honest though... They were charging spectators $60 a head to get in to the bleacher seating the final day and there were only 3 or 4 matches to see! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a nit about paying to see a tournament and usually opt to pay the extra for VIP seating when it's available. But in this case I'd left my KY Jelly at home and didn't feel like taking that dry! lol That was a UPA event! Probably my last! Well Lo and behold, the spectators were so scarce that a nice lady from ESPN invited me, Jimbo, Lou F. and Fred Agnir to fill up some of the VIP seats, right next to the players....GRATIS! We got more TV time than most of the pros in the tournament. lol

just more hot air!

I'm going to guess that he would've gone because of points, not because the tourney would be better. Even if they don't like the venue, the guys duking it out for the points are going to show up like it or not.

Most people fail to realize that very often the room advertised with the event is not the least expensive.

I have organized sporting events for an Armenian sports organization I belong to and have arranged a $10 per room per night kickback from the hotel. This is partly because of the large number of rooms that were needed but can be arranged without too much difficulty.

In other words, they quote a rate to the organizer of $89 for example, charger the renter $99, and the $10 gotes back to the organizer. This is very common everywhere.

With a little research tournament players can find a better rate especially of they are willing to go out of the way a bit.

HI SHERM.
As you know I am the #1 ranked player in the US (calender year), and johnny is only 5 points behind me .
So if it were a UPA event I would've had to gone. Expensive or not
I've got a shot at the Mosconi Cup too, which is going of the calender ranks.

At the time that post was made, yes. Shawn was the leader in the UPA calendar points for the year to date. Shawn is now ranked #2.... 15 points behind Johnny.

Who gives a shit about your player? I, like many others enjoy watching the pro's like Shawn, Johnny, Tony Robles, & all the others that have chosen to better themselves and become great tournament players instead of degenerate gamblers hoping they'll have enough money to eat tomorrow. If your player was such a great playing American player.... he would be ranked #1 or #2....You want to impress someone with your boy? Give him a hair cut, dress pants, collard shirt, and $100 to join the UPA. Once he's paid his dues on the tournament trail & made a name for himself that way... then come tell us about your boy. You don't really care about a game because if you were serious, you would've sent Shawn a PM and tried to set something up. All you really wanted to do was come on here & try to start shit & try to make Shawn look bad. All you did was make yourself look bad.

The UPA is a joke. Everyone knows this. Shawn isn't even a 20 American player. Most pro's don't play in the UPA because the money isn't there asshole. There are class "B" players in the UPA top 30. There's an average local player in the top 20 who you've never heard of. How about I play you, take your money, then kick your ass afterwards Timber?

First of all, I never claimed to be the best American player out there.
The points determin your rankings. What did I do, buy my points or earn them.
Second, Use your real name when you challenge a girl to gamble and then fight her afterwords. do you know how that just made you look?
You should be barred from azbilliards for a stupid comment like that.

Hello Shawn, would you like to arrange a big game, 10k or higher, with my player. Since you're ranked #2, then I won't stake the #1 rated player, just anyone under you since you are second best, right?
Deal?
Any city you'd like too
Bye,
Tommy Gavin...my name!!

Ok tom, Nice picture by the way.
for there to be any action, my backer is going to need to know who your putting in the box.
keep in mind that the tour rankings are based on the best tournament player the year has to offer, so my backer may not want to play a few people in the world but the majority of the people he would be happy to bet 10k+.
By the way. Since you want to single me out after I had a good year and belittle me, don't even think of turning into a GROUPIE and ask for an autogragh cause you'll be left holding a pen and a blank piece of paper......
