Why no pool

Getting pool on TV is easy, it's that the people who produce pool aren't approaching TV executives about it.

ESPN is not the only sports channel on television folks. I bet if the Accu-Stats team took footage of the US International Open to FoxSports1 or FlowSports they would give it a shot. That event was as top notch of a production as there has been in the last few years regarding pool.

If Tony Robles and the predator group enforced a dress code, had two or three more camera angles and got commentators they could easily sell the Empire State Championship pro side to a place like MSG, SNY or YES Network to run during weekends. It may not be the best air times, but it would be on there.

Again, it's easy, it's just that no one wants to bother doing it.
All you say is true but the bottom-line RULES. If they can't sell enough ads during a pool time-slot it AIN'T gonna happen. The best players, setting and production doesn't mean d^*k to t.v. execs. Its all about the benjamins. Which brings me to, yep, CORNHOLE. The fact that this is on and pool isn't should tell us all we need to know. Our game is basically invisible to t.v. networks.

They need to put shot clocks on everyone. I love playing pool as well as watching however there are a couple of players male and female that I absolutely will not/can't watch.

Constant up and down addressing the ball, back up, back down etc...They are fantastic shooters but I just can't watch.

...If a Tournament winner is getting $100,000... UP & the tournaments are filled with spectators... plus a dress code. Several of these kinds of tournaments might garner some interest, especially if ESPN is getting a million letters a week, from fans, wanting to see this on scheduled TV. This has to happen nationally with the aid of the BCAPL, APA, TAP, NAPA & others league players...

All league's operators should send ESPN's address to ALL members, asking everyone to send a letter.

Another option. Offer a small incentive for members to write a letter, to be turned in on league night. The letters will then make their way back to league offices, where they're mailed.

Well that is the most obvious. But that's why you start small and sell upwards. I have friends in the esports business who all they want to do is cater to the hardcore audience. You can't do that. And selling ad time is part of that.

Trust me I know. I talk about it with league members all the time and they look at me like I'm an idiot because I would cater to the non pool playing audience.

cable tv doesn't even show the trick shot competitions anymore. if that's not being shown then 9 or 10 ball stands no chance.
the only way to get any viewers other than the hardcore fans is to have a bunch of celebrities participate in exhibitions.

I agree. Watching two guys or gals trading safeties on a tight-ass table will not sell. 9-10ball on generous pockets with STRICT shot-clocks is the way to go. Joe-sports-fan has to be able to enjoy it or its a no-go from jump street.

Used to be sad when ESPN had Mitch Lawrence commentating when he knew nothing about pool.

Pool is not a good game to watch. It's boring to watch players shoot balls into holes.

Just not a challenge.

Most players are boring. Not much personality.

Strickland's behavior. Obvious cheating by supposedly the sport's best players. Poor wardrobe.....

You want more?
About wardrobe.... the players don't need suits and ties, tuxedos, gloves, special shoes, caps or hats or helmets, weight belts, Strickland's orthopedic whatever covering half his body, matching uniforms, or anything people can glom onto that shouts sponsorship.
What pool needs is the sponsorship. We need an industry capable of spending the money to get the sport on ESPN. You won't find that in Triangle's Tavern. The sponsors got turned off by Strickland and many others' behavior. For years, if you wanted it, you found it there at the pool hall. I basically stopped playing more than 10 years ago. Life is a lot easier not having to clean the men's room at the end of the night. Clean the game up and the sponsors will come.
