Everybody keeps talking about how we should make all these changes in 14.1 in order for it to become popular and become accepted for T.V.!

Now somebody tell me one concession the golf world or in fact any other sport ever made for television!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everybody is off track here. The game needs to be cleaned up. I'm not talking about taking the gambling out of it. I'm talking about getting the proper people to do what was done for golf and the other sports.

Boxing is still 3 minute rounds. Auto races are still 250 laps or 500 laps. Horse racing has the same 3 races for the triple crown. Baseball is still 9 innings if weather holds.

People watch boxing and damn few participate in that sport. Horse racing is about as consistent as you can get. Baseball has not made any major changes except one league has a designated hitter and the other does not.
They are all televised and no one is saying let's make some changes and maybe more people will watch.

They just happen to have people who know how to promote!!!!!

Pool has always tried to utilize the players who have 0 promotional skills. Most of the players are flat busted most of the time, have no 401K, no medical insurance and basically live a lousy life in comparison to the rest of the sportsworld.

I say all those interested need to come to an agreement and go all out to do what is best overall, and secure from outside those people capable of making pool what it should be. But please get off this kick of changing to adapt to T.V.. They have qualified editors that can put together a package that a sponsor would love to have.

While I agree with your point, there have been lots of changes in many sports for television. Perhaps you are familiar with the television timeout (NBA, NFL), that totally disrupts the pace of play.

Also, the last time Straight Pool was televised, camera movement was minimal and there was minimal graphic assistance. Now, with computer animation and pocket-cams, there's just so much more you can do. I mean, I don't even think golf existed on television before tv's went color!

I honestly believe those that watch pool don't even care what's going on. They just like seeing balls drop. In order to truly have a good-looking product, you may have to impose a severe shot-clock for televised matches but could you imagine how informative and exciting it could be if the commentator could give a computer graphic on what was about to occur?

If you can figure out a way to graphically explain straight pool so that one would not have to listen, people might really get turned on to it.
