Why The World Straight Pool Championship Exists

14.1

I'm not a promoter. I'm not a representative of a sanctioning body. I'm just looking at this squabble from way outside "the inside." I'm a lover of 14.1, and very grateful to Charlie, to Bob, to Jerry and to anybody else who can keep the Championship Game alive!

This is a great and historic feat what DP has done bringing back 14.1. It's really a shame more of the European players didn't come to support it this year and sided with the WPA. I thought players like Jasmin,Souquet and Niels Feijen would be sure to come play.
Feijen is defending champion, it's sad to see him and the others deterred like a puppet by federations.

But at least there are some wiser players like Thorsten Hohmann,Oliver Ortmann and Mika Immonen. They decided to control their own careers thank God for the fans. They are the favorites in any 14.1 field !
Good luck to them!

I'll try to "defend" the Europeans once again.

The pricemoney has dropped 50 % from last year

The tournament is not sanctioned

The day before the event starts they still play Eurotour Austria Open. Then they need to travel to USA, minimum 12 h flight + 6 h time difference.

The day after the 14-1 they have to be in Manila to play the World Cup of Pool. That's 12 hours travelling + 12 h time difference.

I would love to see how many Americans who would travel to London or another European city with a schedule like that, for a tournament that is much less attractive than anyone thought it would be just months ago...

It would be hard for me to want to travel across the pond in my band knowing when we get there we are going to make $1.98 so I understand completely. Hopefully things get sorted out because I am a huge fan of 14.1 and would go just about anywhere to watch world championship competition

Why can't the various parties involved come to a reasonable compromise so that everyone wins?

We're in a worldwide recession. The money for a more generous prize fund simply isn't available.

Unless there's another 14.1 championship being sanctioned this year, why not sanction this one? It's better than nothing at all.

No question that schedule is grueling. Can't the 14.1 championship be scheduled for another time?

The bickering between the various parties is silly. The sole purpose of the WPA should be to look out for the best interests of the players and stop this petty squabbling.

See comments in blue above.
