Why two different 3/8x10 pins and can I even then up myself?

My two customs both have a 3/8x10 joint pin, but the one on my Triple Cross Cue on the left is a bit different and longer. As a result, its shafts will fit my Steve Kornele, but the SK shafts, as well as PureX Kielwood & Rhino carbon fiber shafts I have will not screw down flush with the joint on the TCC.

How would I go about evening things up? Should I even attempt it myself or try to find a local cue repair place to do it. I would love for my two aftermarket shafts to solidly fit both cues.

An update - the Rhino shaft will actually fit, though the last couple of turns get fairly tight. The PureX won't even start to feed.

Just went through this with a Shelby JP.

Bought a tap and handle, gently gave it a few turns, and viola. Bit expensive to buy the tap but whadahey.

It’s nothing to do but I didn’t have cue mechanic handy.

I had similar issue with a Rhino shaft. I bought a 3/8x10 tap and manually tapped the shaft and now it fits fine, same issue I had with a Rhino 5/16x14 thread and same fix worked.

If you have a cuesmith in your area, he could do it for you

Thanks! I will look into this. I'd really like to fit the Kielwood FUZE to it and see how it plays.

How do you like the Fuze Kielwood shaft?
I have one on its way to me. I haven’t heard anything about it and couldn’t find much input on it. I got one with a 14 thread because it’s flat-faced to match a cue I have that needs a new shaft

I like the hit and feel of it on my Steve Kornele, but I'm not feeling as accurate with that combo as I am with my JFlowers cue and my Cuetec Avid. Different cues, different shafts though. I'm also suffering a little with the Rhino shaft on SK, as well, which makes me think it's the cue and not the shafts. This is why I'm eager to try them both on my other custom, to see how they play there.

I did try the Kielwood on a cheap Evo cue composite butt and it played very well there. Again, I think I'm just not feeling the Steve Kornele as much anymore, which is a shame. I've had it for a long time and love it. Might be time to shelve or sell it.

I know the feeling of cues that once felt great and now, not so great... we change, we get used to other things. I hardly touch my McDaniel that used to be my favorite...

dont do it
There's a good chance I won't now. I've just been playing with the Rhino shaft on the other cue with the longer pin and that combo is solid! I think I'm gonna call them married & monogamous. No need to mess with that relationship further.

Still gotta figure out that Kielwood FUZE though.
