Why US Open pool is private affair?

It isn't on TV, no pool is really on TV over here, and highly unlikely that it ever will be. It's not as much a draw here. Over there there's a lot of money wagered on it thru sports books, so it's more popular, just like anything else you can legally bet on.
Pool used to be on TV quite a bit. Major sports channels (espn) used to televise major tournaments.
I really hope pool makes a comeback in North America (it is just as down in Canada as it is in america). What needs to happen is something to drive interest in the general public. When the general public wants to watch/play pool there will be more sponsors. When there are more sponsors (big non pool sponsors) the big sports networks can make their money by televising events.
The question is - what can be the catalyst to drive interest? A pool movie like the color of money? Maybe the hustlers tv show will help.

How about a reality show on TV, and why not call it The Hustlers!
We'll see if the show will lead to live or at least taped tournaments being shown again outside of Challenge of Champions, Women or Trick Shots.
Until I saw the world championships broadcast live in Canada I never realized the difference seeing it live made (this was before live-streaming became a thing). As a pool nut I will watch any decent pool on TV, but live coverage is 100x more entertaining. So I'm not surprised that teh ESPNs of the world don't find much of an audience for pool matches that took place months ago.
