I have a 8'antique pool table. I was sent sample cushion profiles. u-23,k-66 and k-55 .The closest to the original cushion profile and size was k-55. So I bought diamond k-55 cushions. I put 1 cushion on a rail and noticed the facings were too small. Took a picture and showed it to the ebayer I bought them from. He replied saying my rails were cut for a k-66 cushion and not the k-55 I had on it. Can he tell which profile I need just by looking at it? when I dry fitted the k-66 sample on the rail the nose height was over 1-1/2" With the k-55 its at 1-1/2" Will it play somewhat good? Will 1/16"be that noticeable? Not sure what I should do. I really don't want to pay for rail work to be done. Thank you

Modern cushions will not fit right on the rails you have unless the sub-rails have been modifed to fit them, period!

So you are saying that the table will unplayable at 1/16th of an inch over the ideal nose height? Can you tell by looking at a picture of my rails which cushion should be used? The guy I bought my facings told me my rails were cut for k-66 cushion . Is that true? ( 1890s table) Just wondering how he knows that . Should I modify the sub rails with 55 or 66 profile?
Thank you

Look, even a GC1 or 2 won't play right with todays replacement K55 cushions because the sub-rails were not designed to accept the change in cushions. So, no your rails won't play right with any cushions at 1 1/2" nose height, the balls are going to pinch under the nose of the cushions and play dead slow.

OK. All I have to do is cut the sub rail angle of the bevel slightly and use the k55 cushions which will bring down my nose height. sounds like a plan .
thank you.

Keep in mind also, the newer K55 cushions are also wider than the original cushions you're replacing, overall width from the nose of the cushions to the finish of the rails should be 1 31/32''s, cloth makes them 2"wide, which maintains the correct dememtions of the playing surface.

I will keep that in mind. Thanks again. I used 3m scotch-weld to attach the cushion. Can I remove ,cut the sub rail ,and reuse that cushion again?

Depending on how well you bonded the cushions, you may want to use a solvent to help remove them...because that glue holds very well:D
