Wilmington Hates Pool

Mets fighting for a playoff spot in what could be the last game they play in Shea stadium vs. what was probably a recording of something that happened at Mohegan Sun 2 years ago?

ESPN has lost its mind.

Blame ESPN programmers, they could've easily accommodate both, that's why they have ESPN2 and ESPN classic.

Obviously you didn't watch. This was the 2008 Challenge of Champions, which happened just recently...and ESPN showed 3 hours in a row; both semi-finals and the finals. Great job ESPN!

To be fair, ESPN never airs billiard matches

I kind of agree with the article though. When given the choice between a live game and a taped pool match, they should have aired the game. That said, there must have been other circumstances involved.

I watched all three hours of the CoC! No way I would have sat and watched baseball for that long.

I think there are contracts for airing events, aren't there? Some time each year, stations bid on which events they'll be allowed to air or something like that. Maybe they didn't have the rights they needed to air baseball yesterday..?

Baseball is the American pasttime and it is great to go to the ballpark and watch it live, but it may just be the most boring tv sport I have ever seen.

Maybe all ten of us should email ESPN with our thanks.

I agree. Baseball in person is cool, but on tv hell no.

kinda puzzling

I have to agree with the guy. There were games that counted being played.Baseball should have been on,kind of strange that they did not air a baseball game.

I certainly enjoy seeing pool on tv as much as possible.Ratings wise I don't see how they could air a taped pool match if they were able to show a baseball game. There must be a reason why they could not put on a baseball game.

You think if we all call our agents & hold out for 17 million more then order a couple of cycles of anadrol steroids then head to the pool hall, america will want to watch

Screw the Met's and baseball!!!!!!!! Give me a good pool match any day of the year.

it was the right thing to show. period. baseball gets more than enough coverage and pool doesn't. and i am a baseball fan (first yankee game in 1976 - never forget it) but lets be real. the guy was complaining about not seeing the mets. who cares - their own fans don't care. they choked like everyone knew they would, like they did last year. and that stadium. are you f*cking kidding me. it needed to be leveled twenty years ago when i was there last. but god forbid espn show this years challenge of champions for those of us who wish to view it. and kiss my a*s twice. if you want baseball so bad lay out the cheese for the mlb pack from direct tv. i love the nfl, so i dropped the cost of the sunday ticket and didn't think twice, now i watch every game i want and don't have to worry. enough already.

No Respect

Pool doen't get respect as a sport. I used to live in Wilmington and played at Breaktime Billiards which is located at College Road at Market Street.

TV, Newspapers and other media covers the sports that brings them the most money. Pool needs someone to stir up some interest Nationally! With more charity events etc.

I remember the WPBA came to Tunica MS at one of the Casinos there. Steve Tipton was interviewed which could have been a positive thing for our sport. -But what he said I believe kept people away. Steve was quoted as saying "8 ball is like watching paint dry" so that is why they play 9 ball.

Now I am a 9 ball player but I also realize the people that would be paying $$ for tickets to the WPBA events would most likely be league players that do play 8 ball - so that comment was like a slap in the face. Needless to say, the turn-out for that event was thin!

This is just my opinion!
