Just opened a new room in Bremerton Washington.

It is a strip-mall type building,we have 140' of glass in the front.I got bids on window tinting, the 20% tint looked to be ideal but it is terribly expensive.

Not crazy about shades, blinds or curtains as I would like something that people cannot mess with.

I started looking online for the window film so I can buy it and install it myself but I think it is one of those proprietary things.

Any suggestions?

Look for the stuff online at lowes or Home Depot in the window treatment part of the Decor section. There's a fairly wide variety of pricing based on type and brand.Installation is easy or so I've heard.

Why do you want to darken the room? At night it will look like there is no one there. IMO

PM me your email address and I will send you pictures of what I did ten years ago. It is fairly economical, you have options, and it works great.

thanks for the responces

I did some searching on the web and found window film for around $500.00,I kept looking and found it for less then $200.00 for a 100' roll.It is 20% tint and is supposed to reduce glare by 80%.This is way cheaper then having a pro install it.I will try to install it myself, wish me luck....

-Paul. I cannot pm from this account for some reason but my e-mail is jertheplumber@live.com

-Slate. the Revolution Wrap looks great but that is out of our budget at this time.

-OTBL.We will have to put up lots of cheezy neon lights to let people know we are here and open lol.I did look at a sample of the 20% tint,it gets rid of the glare and most of the daylight while still allowing a person to see in and out.

This buisness is a work in progress and I hope to keep making improvements as we are able.

Solution

I decided to go through the trouble of taking some pictures, re-sizing them, and posting them here for everyone. Maybe there are some other room owners that are looking for options.

I used "transparent blinds". View the "Project Gallery" on the tool bar of this sight.

They are cheaper than any blinds I could find and there were many options. You can lower them during the day and raise them at night. No window covering is going to be cheap but this is certainly do-able. There are also many colors of shades.

Here are some pictures of my room with the shades up and down, day and night. I have had them for ten years. I would also like to add that the blinds are terrific insulators. When it gets really cold outside, I leave the blinds down at night. It helps keep the place warm. A lot of heat is lost if a lot of your wall space is window.

I work at a printing company and we print on this stuff called window perferation. It is like the material used in pull down car window shades. It is a self adheasive, low tac material that is very easy to apply. You can have anything you want printed on it, like the name of your pool hall. It provides some sun screening effect but not to the extent that the window tint will provide. If you like I can probably arrange for my company to send you a sample so you can try it out. I'm not really trying to push anything here but I thought it be a nice solution to your problem. I don't make any $ off this so it's no skin off my nose either way! Just reply here or shot me a PM if your interested.
Hope this helps.
