Drove 150 miles to Anchorage the other day so I could practice on the 9' Diamond tables. I shoot better on my old 9' Rebco. Same cloth and table size but the Diamond table rails bounce more and the pockets are a bit tighter, so I was not very pleased with my shooting.

The Fur Rondy Open 8 ball tournament is the 14th and 15th of March and 9 Ball the following week end. I will shoot 6 hours a day till the tourney starts, any more then that and old age starts kicking my butt. I don't expect to win, but I will definitely have fun no matter where I place. Who knows, if I draw lucky on the matches and have a good day and they don't............

Ak Guy...You can play 24 hrs a day and it won't necessarily improve how you play under the pressure of the tournament. Better time spent would be to get yourself some hole reinforcements and set up 10 shots that give you trouble (the paper dots create the EXACT same shot). Practice those 10 shots 20x apiece, at different speeds and different tip positions. After that, spend 30 minutes practicing your break. THEN spend time practicing playing...which is what you're doing now. Just a suggestion!

100% agree with Mr. Lee's suggestion.

Also, if you are needing to play on tighter pockets why not spend $40 and get a set of Pocket Reducers? One of the best practice aids out there as far as I am concerned.

That is one of the things I found annoyed me most about the Diamonds, compared to 95% of the way other tables are setup with the stock rails and even same Simonis cloth, they play quite a bit faster. When I play on one I pretty much have to adjust for an extra rail of position play, it's very tough to hold a ball up with any angle unless you slow roll everything. Pockets also play tougher but not just due to the size, also the shelf is a bit deeper than on many other styles of tables.

I just can't baby a shot unless I really focus on doing that, then I end up with some type of fake stoke that causes me to miss a lot or really slow down the cueball and instead of too far I go to short.

It's probalby just my personal play syle, but I find that on a nice broken in GC3/4, even with the same 4.5" pockets as the Diamonds, is when I play my best.
