Women's Pool Team Treated Poorly?

The Philippines is widely regarded in the world of billiards as one of the countries to reckon with in men's play and, as such, is given automatic slots in almost all the major international tournaments.

This was achieved through the pioneering efforts of great players like former world champion and Hall of Famer Efren "Bata" Reyes, Jose "Amang" Parica, Francisco "Django" Bustamante and, most recently, former double world titlist Ronnie Alcano, Alex Pagulayan, world No. 1 Dennis Orcollo and former snooker artist Marlon Manalo.

However, this is not the case in women's pool.

Continuing: In their letter, the women's team members said: "It is with disappointment that we, members of the Philippine women's national billiards and snooker team, must write this letter. However, we felt the need to do so to make you, and everyone, aware of the issues and abuses that we were subjected to by officials of the BSCP."

From 2005 to 2008, the lady players said they "proudly carried the country's colors and the hopes of its people as members of the Philippine team despite the lack of support from our NSA. BSCP's focus has always been on the male pool players. Our numerous calls to our NSA for competition exposure?both local and international?have always fell on deaf ears."

There's a rumble in the jungle, with Rubelin Amit (depicted below), probably the best lady pro in Philippines, leading the way. She sure is a real cutie pie!

JAM, this is just another chapter in the ongoing war between the pool organisations in the Philippines.

At least the new organisation BMPAP also seems to look after the women. R. Amit has been granted a wild card into the last Senator Villards cup tournaments.

These tournaments have a gruelling format - single elimination - but even if you loose your first round match, you are cashing in! Normally appr 24-26players are directly qualified to the last 32 I believe, and the rest of the spots are filled up through some extremely tough qualifications.

When I played this tournament in Bacolod in november, a world beater like Jherome Phena, failed to qualify..
