Wood Bleach?

I am in the process of getting a couple old house cues converted. The forearm maple is dark as with all 40 year old wood. I am having new shafts made.

My question:
Would using a little wood bleach on the 40 yr old maple take a bit of the color out so its a closer match to the new wood shafts?

Leave the old cue alone. Wood bleach is very bad for wood. Just break up the two colors with some nice joint rings and enjoy the cue. On the shaft only put finish over the shaft joint ring and as the cue gets played it will get dirty and you will not noticed much difference then.
 
AS soon as you sand or make a turn with the router it will get somewhat lighter. IMO
I would not bleach the wood. Getting darker shafts should not be a problem.

Absolutely true, I also like the old color look to it.
