I am truly thinking about getting a custom cue made..but i want to design it myself...what is a good resource to compare diffrent types of wood to use to build cues..i want to look at color and grain and see what types look good and what hit each wood type will produce..or is that something a custom cue maker will discuss with me when i go talk to one..thanks guys

If you have decided on a cuemaker why don't you go to his shop and look at the woods he has on hand. I was able to design my cue by picking thru the blocks of wood on hand. Of course I had a color preference from the getgo so then I just picked the wood with the prettiest grain. I have a couple other designs in mind, but I think my designs begin with color and then I go from there.

Actually Bobs Exotic Hard Woods on ebay has nice stuff.
Global woods and Bell Forest.
I was told Duc Lam Has nice wood but have never verified.
Just make sure you are buying aged or Kiln dried. I bought an approx 4' piece of 2x2 curly pink ivory that I will be waiting for years to dry.
At least I plenty of time to think about the project.

I don't have a great deal of experience with woods. What would happen if you had the curly Pink Ivory wood and cored it and put kiln dried wood in the center? Just curious sir. Would it still warp?

I am not a builder I just like selecting my own matterials from time to time.
Best assumption would be that the coring would stop the warpage however if you kiln dried uncured wood over a dry core the differencial shrinkage of the uncured wood most likely will cause checking. Basically wood needs to dry in a uniform manner. Putting a dry core in it would cause the uncured wood to shrink around the perimeter of said core.
