I would still guess black palm. I only have one piece of wenge, but I've seen several pieces of black palm. My wenge isn't anywhere as grainy as that. Maybe it's a heavily stained piece of oak?
Without seeing it in person my vote is Wenge. Nothing special to working with Wenge except it is fairly open grain and may require more sealer than some other woods you have worked with. I am almost positive it is not Black Palm.

After reading your last post and re-viewing the original picture the grain pattern makes sense with purpleheart. I've got a few of these very oxidized butts in my stash and after sanding vigorously show purple. Dark purple!!!! If it's wenge, when coarsely sanded or cut, it may tear and have wide open grains that requires lot's of sealer as Chris said above. No purple should appear if wenge.
