Wood shafts ?

Maybe a better question is who uses the best quality wood when making their shafts? That seems like it would be a more fair and answerable question since who makes the "best shafts" is very much an opinion based on how a player likes the hit of the shaft and how it deflects, in addition to personal cue maker favoritism coming into play. I guess you can go by how carefully and how long it takes for someone to make a shaft, but even then that may not be everything that makes a shaft a good one.

At least wood quality is more or less a known science, but even then when making shafts out of them some people want denser woods, some want a lighter wood.

Some of the folks that have replied have mentioned that aspect. Thanks for highlighting it as an important
factor. But then again, it comes down to an opinion as to which is the "best quality wood", agree?

When i was younger i also made this question several times. Beside brands, experienced players always told me this: there is no such "the best" thing... it is a question of feel.
So on, i spent a lot of money buying and trying new cues with several shafts. So, it is just my opinion after all this years and it is my personal feeling:
1) Predator Z3
2)Custom, aged and perfectly straigth maple.
3)Any other predator
4) Any Mezz shaft
5) Several
...)
99) Bar box random stuff one piece cue.

Mezz makes the best wood shafts. Ruslan was playing with an Alpha pro Mezz shaft. They are the standard shaft with the ACE series cues. One day, when I hit the lottery, I'm gonna buy me one a them cues.

Sorry cant agree JOSS shafts are A++++

The joss shaft I've got is also top notch. With the malamine ferrule. Nice crisp hit. Not whippy ether. And Well tapered.

I like Joss too. But I've only be ever used a Joss shaft as part of a Joss cue.

The absolutely best wood shaft ever made can be seen in the following short video. Sadly, it's no longer available.

pwd72s, Howdy;

Strangely enough,, he learned to make cues at the Joss shop in Md. from Danny Janes.

Howdy All;

Who, makes the BEST wooden shafts? I realize that the shaft/ferrule/cue tip is the
bit that is where the rubber meets the road so-to-speak. The butt mainly being the
engine that powers the vehicle as it were.
A few years ago there was a lot of talk going on about a certain shaft that one of
the Pros was using Chinakhov (sp?), I think it was. Not sure of the Tourney.

Just had to ask.

It's really personal preference. No two players have the same stroke so what is good for one player could be bad for another player. I would suggest going to a big Pool store and trying a few to see what works best for you.

I've owned a lot of cues from different makers and recently purchased an extra shaft for my Huebler from Viking Cues. Now I don't know if they're all like this but it's one great piece of wood. It's a V Pro that I had made to spec and it's full of growth rings and some nice curl to the maple. I was very impressed. One of the best I've seen and very reasonably priced.

Has anyone tried the ipro slim shafts from McDermott. Had my eye on one.

I have, did not like any of the McDermott iPro shafts too much. Now their standard shafts I liked, even though I don't play with standard shafts, the have a great hit feel.
