Where can I get them from? I heard that you can use playing cards also...How would you wedge the cards between the slate and the frame of the table?

A wood chisel or large flathead screwdriver as a wedge then slide a few cards in. simple spread insert then remove tool and tighten screw.

i got some perfect mohogany hardwood shims at bowling and billiards. some of those shims at home depot are not "sharp" enough. i used them to shim some center supports for the slate but then to "fine tune" i used the perfect mohogany shims.

Using a belt sander you can quickly bring any shim to a very fine thin point in just seconds;)

There are a couple mechanics here in Cincinnati who perfected these wedges. One is a member hear Slatehumper. They are by far the best hardwood wedges available. If you need contact info just PM me. I think they are .25 ea. plus shipping. They taper to nothing at the end. Perfect for precision work. I have been using them for years.
