wood to wood joints

What makes certain cues make a sound- a "bonk" type sound? I have heard the sound on ss and wood to wood. I am talking about a good "bonk" and not a loose tip or a cue that is not all the way screwed together.

I had a Rick Howard that had a really good sound when it hit the balls.

Do you think that pads or backing on tips affects the sound?

I am a wood to wood lover with my only SS jointed cue being a cheap break cue.

I would really like to try a Kilby cue with wood shaft pin and threaded wood butt to see how it feels.

Can anyone comment on this cue or other all wood joints??

the hit

Ive played with a wood to wood or solid Ivory 3/8 10 pin cues for over seven years. I used to say I couldnt stand the look and lack of feel that a SS joint provides. I picked up a friends Richard Black and hit a few balls with it and was amazed. The cue fit me like a glove. I have bought a Richard Black Bushka and wont look back. Just a quick tid bit about his cues: RB builds cues to Balabushkas specs, maybe that has something to do with it. My personel advice is to shoot with every cue you have the opertunity to. You too will find what suits you the best, it might take awhile though. Also, when you do find it, DONT SELL IT. Changing cues to much can and will hurt your game. all JMO
