Top photo shows what I have to work with,
2nd photo shows the joint sleeve i want,
3rd photo shows the dress collars I'd like to have behind the sleeve and on shaft.

I'm keeping the flat face and original pin, i like that.

my question is, how can i get an appx price for the job?

That wouldnt be that bad. Things you would have to know to do that job.
What size is your cue at the joint?
Is the pin on center?
who made the cue? Not need but was wondering?
Cue maker phone # Or Rats #
Here one I just did with that pin.

That cue was put together by Larry Vigus, Texas.
Changing the dress ring and sleeve of original joint will give me that hard hit and also reconfigure weight in that area.
I've only developed my formula at the drawing board, might change to same sleeve only half size, not sure yet.

Larry really knows what he's doing, the Dufferin was a major find and he's got it tuned so good!

You know what it takes. Cutting the collar off the shaft and threading the stainless collar on the butt. Also threading new collars on the shaft with the alum ring. Joint size may be a problem with thick walled stainless joint. You may need a custom sized thin wall collar. It could be sleeved over the phenolic collar on the butt. This could be a problem for some cue makers with out a metal lathe. Also a refinish. I don't do repair to other cue makers cues if they are still in business. There is about as much work here as building a new cue. Less installing the pin.

Why not have Larry do the work? After all it is his cue.

Flame On

Why not have Larry do the work? After all it is his cue.

Because the cue plays so well, its weight and balance are spot on and the wood is seasoned and mature, I'm almost afraid to touch it.
I had considered getting into touch with Mr Vigus and I sening.till may.
Its almost like a stock chevy, there's so much there and you know it could be so much more, it's frightening.

I want a harder hit and a touch of weight at the joint, so I choose steel, another variable was considered, Ivory, but thats very expensive and the hit is completely differnt than steel. I have also considered investing to change the bottom couple of inches of butt.

I have played with house cues that were better than szams, you dont disregard good wood because it isnt fancy or famous.

That will be completely changing the personality of the cue(witch is your right to do) The cue would need a slick finish after installing such a good looking joint. The current gun stock finish just won't cut it. Might not cost much more just to have a cue made with the joint you want.

Give me a call if you want to talk. I will PM you my number.

Joint size is .85" pin is installed stright and centered. to with in .0002"

Larry

Hi,

Under the good neighbor policy I'm bound to relay this info to you I weighted the parts and the collar weights 1.5 ounces and then there's those big rings. Adding 1.75 ounces to the front of the cue is not recommended.

Have a nice day,

Mario

Mcues (mario) is very good at this sort of thing,
he hails from Long Island NY, as does Peter Tascarella, he also "Lathes Metal"

Thought I Should Post These Ideas

hello mario, hope to find you in good spirits.

have a question about those big bushka dress collars.
you said the stainless sleeve i chose was 1.50 oz., and the dress collar added to 1.75 oz.,

that point 25 was only one dress ring?

what i'm trying to figure is how much weight will be reduced after removing those Juma collars.
i did originnally calculate 1/2 oz. additional weight to the the joint area, thats what i want.
but the sleeve weighing in @ 1.50 oz., by itself is a killer.

a Carbon or Glass joint pin will help me to keep the weight where i want it , just a thought.

ps: how do you like my new idea (shown below) with the Bushka Dress Collar backing it up

If it's weight and balance are spot on and it plays so good, why change it ?

Best Wishes,

Steve
