World 10 Ball Silence

It seems odd for AZB to still have the two articles on the home page by Yen Makabenta but nothing about the apparently missing prize purse in the news section.

Mike, any chance of putting something up there? Or is this not considered news until there is some kind of official statement about the issue? Perhaps you can contact Mr. Makabenta for an interview?

It sure would be nice if they'd issue a press statement tomorrow, Oct 24 (which was their 2nd promised date given to Pulpul's Manager) if not the payment.

If they don't then maybe the players can consider doing something that I'll recommend tomorrow. No, no it's not violent in nature.

Check out my 2nd post on the Senate Transcripts http://www.worldpoolchampionship.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3909&whichpage=2
Senator Pimentel asks Yen Makabenta if he received money from PAGCOR as the BSCP Chairman and Yen answers "No sir just sponsorships". To which Senator Lacson responds "sponsorships is Money" and Makabenta goes "YEAH". Wow! Clearly caught lying in a SENATE HEARING!

I wonder what kind of lies us common people are going to get regarding the prize money payment? Notice too that it was PAGCOR, WTBC main sponsor, money that they were discussing. Do you recall my post mentioning advances for WPC2007 from this years WTBC?

maybe Yen thought it was money as in legal tender, and not money in the form of sponsorships. but anyway, he did receive money either way.

Ah, money received as the CHAIRMAN of BSCP then spent as the PRESIDENT of RAYA, a privately owned corporation. If that is not "conflict of interest" I don't know what is.

Did Raya Sports get to used the gov't owned channel for free when they covered the last 2 WPCs? Inquiring minds wants to know Edwin...

No,because it doesn't have the following (media exposure) that their sponsors require. Another info volunteered to me by a reliable source is that the balance for the use of the PICC for the WTBC isn't paid yet.

You must've misread it Edwin, I said the World Pool Championships, '06 and '07...

My bad, I didn't made it clear. I meant to say is, how about PTV4's equipment?
Oh, you mean the cameras and OB Van. Sorry, I really don't have details.

.. if they continue to allow promoters and organizations to dictate what they can do, who can play and who can't, what rules will be used, and so on, then they deserve to be treated like second rate citizens.

This is surely happening already. The organisers of the Philippines versus the Rest of the World challenge match wanted. Darren Appleton and Konstantin Stepanov to play in this event. They could each have picked up almost $4000 as losers or double that figure as members of the winning team (with expenses paid).

But the final day of the event clashes with the opening day of a Euro Tour event. This means that they cannot play in Manila. They do not have to play in the Euro Tour tournament in Spain. But if they don't then they are not allowed to play anywhere else .

European players were given exemptions from playing early in the US Open to fit in with their Euro Tour committments. So why not have a bit of give and take on this situation.

Mika Immonen and Thorsten Hohmann are ROW players so does this mean that they can never go back to their homelands and play the Euro Tour again. If not then there are double standards.

Both these players are former World Champions but their lifeline into WPA events 'former WCs' is running out. Then the only way that they can get into the WPA tournaments is via Euro Tour and European Championship Rankings. So they are screwed. Who will champion their cause?

Who could? Only A Strong Solid Pro Players Organisation.

Absolutely Doug. Everyone including the WPA likes to consider pool a worldwide sport but then they treat it as territorial fiefdoms, all trying to "own" the players without actually wanting to provide for them.

Well, I hope that the players get paid. And a fitting irony would be if they would take the money and fund a truly strong player's organization to bring balance to the game.

Get money as BSCP and use the money for the Raya promoted world championships... yes, conflict of interest...

The paper trail should be traceable...

Pagcor issues a check or checks to BSCP. Then BSCP checks are used to pay Raya event expenses for the world championships...

Has Raya responded to this?

Yes they have, numerous times, and stated that there's no "conflict of interest". You can even look at one of Yen's article in the home page of this forum http://www.azbilliards.com/yenmakabenta/yen9.php. I don't know how he can keep stating such when it's very clear on the Senate Transcript that I posted in Matchroom http://www.worldpoolchampionship.com...09&whichpage=2
that he received money from Pagcor as Chairman of BSCP and spent it as Raya the Promoter. Like I said, he had no qualms lying to a Senator in a Senate Hearing what more to us.

I like that Yen article above that I provided a link for, the people responsible are identified. Diokno was the one who announce the rule change and showed players the door if they don't agree with the change. We also have the 3 Musketeers Yen, Ernie and Tony plus Baste (F'artaintya-sorry can't spell D'Art....).
