World 10 Ball - Who Cares?

Tap, tap, tap! Good post JB. Kudos to all the players in attendance. I've got some good and not exactly bad comments about this 1st time production but I'll save it for later. The players are taking center stage now.

I totally agree with JB and I must also applaud Bandido for his discretion shown here. Let's all try to get along.....:) the world is big enough for everyone....so far

oh, and thanks, jay, for the updates! and everyon else who've shared their observations and experiences at the tournament. kinda makes up for not being there personally, well not really, but it's better than nothing...more pics of jasmin pls!

edit: oops, wrong thread!

World 10 Ball - a boring, predictable game played to silly rules.
Add a ball take away the excitement. Golden breaks, creative combinations - all gone.

A third rate production played in front of a handful of people.
Worldwide TV coverage - don't make me laugh! Europe? America?
Only through some dim and dreadful internet links?

But who cares? The cream of the Philippines have wisely decided to keep away. Dennis Orcullo, (currently the best player on the planet)
Bata and Django (guaranteed to put backsides on seats).
Roberto Gomez and Ronnie Alcano (otherwise engaged).

How can the ultimate winner take any satisfaction when they did not test themselves against one of the above - not to mention Gallego, Kiamco, van Corteza and umpteen other world class players performing on their home turf.

The sad part that this shoddy vehicle undermined the game's classic pinnacle event - the World 9 Ball Championships. But comparing Ray Sports to Matchroom would be an insult. Now it is evident where the extra money that Matchroom demand is spent.

Better production values, genuine worldwide coverage for the sponsors products. But once again the cheap option is taken thereby keeping pool,
if not in the gutter, firmly on the kerbstone.

No doubt the WPC9 will return. Hopefully, the clowns who put on this circus will have had enough custard pies in their face to last them a lifetime. Or will next year be the World 11 Ball Championship?

Excellent observation sir. The first time "profit and power" become involved, the greed takes over, and love for the sport goes right out the window. Its happened here in our country too.

Hi Doug,

I have to agree with Jerry on this one, like him, you and I have been friends for a long time and if we disagree it does not do anything to mar our friendship.
I think that your comments were a bit harsh.

As you know, I am here watching the tournament and although there are a lot of things about the organisation that do not compare with the professionalism of Matchroom for whom I have the utmost admiration, the show is going on.

I think the fact that the most well known Filipinos are not present has affected the publice attendance but believe me those that are here from all over the world are playing their hearts out for a share of the $400K.

I know there has been talk of the prize money not being paid but we have to wait and see on that one, I can't see it happening and I have to believe that there will not be a problem.

I find it strange that there is a mixture of tables and have heard various comments from the players about it.

With regard to the game, I have spoken to many players who are happy about ten ball, as you know, last year's WPC 9 Ball was farcical with the soft break guaranteeing success for the player at the table.

The extra ball and the call shot rule has changed things a lot, I believe that there needs to some minor adjustments to the rules but they are new, and hopefully there will be feed back from this tournament.

I hate the luck that occurs in 9 ball where it is possible to win by flukes, here, you have to play every ball and call it if it is not obvious, I like that.

I would take the combination shot on the 10 out of the picture and use the same rule as in 8 Ball where the 10 has to be the last ball pocketed.

However, whatever you or I think about the organisation, the rules or even Yen Makabenta, the show goes on and I have seen some great matches and hope to see some more today especially when David plays Neils!!!!
