I've read a few things here and there, but still couldn't discern if it was actually going to be held this year. Its usually held in August which is about 4 months from now. Any news?

Justin.

I don't have the dates but I do believe it is happening. Last year they didn't really confirm the event until after the BCA Vegas stuff in May. I expect the same this year. I asked the tournament director about it the other day.

Thanks man! I hope it goes down, every year CW says "This tourney loses money every year but we are committed to it!" So I always worry it won't go down.

14.1 World tournament

From what I understand the straight pool championship will be held again this year at the usual location in East Brunswick, NJ. The dates are 8/25 to 8/30.

It seems as though the 14.1 tournament is the only world championship happening this year.

With that being the case I like the idea of the world champion being decided by the game of 14.1.

I concur, 90% of nine ball is in the break - I hope our opinion is a popular one. Straight Pool is the only choice for a World Championship game in my view. Unlike 9 ball I have yet to witness an argument about the rack in 14.1, In my humble opinion 14.1 is Pockets Billiards in it's most pure form and less arguing and or ego theatrics. I hope everyone supports the qualifiers for the World 14.1, this is a structured way to let amatuers compete against the professionals.

Can't argue with that. One thing that has struck me about games like 8 ball or 9 ball, just about any decent amateur can manage a performance with accu-stats .900 rating, although very rarely. Conversely very few amateurs have ever managed 200 balls in 3 innings, or even 5. I certainly have not, 67 balls per inning is well out of the realm of possibility for a lot of very good players.

On a side note, what I like about 14.1, one pocket and snooker is that they utilize a controlled safety break. No luck involved, no hail mary opening break shots.

That's so true. I've lost sets of 9-ball playing even against players I could easily give the 7 ball to most of the time. However, I've never lost a straight pool match to a player who I could regularly spot say 40 balls in a 150 point game. In fact, I've seen B players play a nearly perfect set of 9-ball because the balls broke well and they didn't have to do much to run-out, but I've never seen a B player do anything similar to it in straight pool.

Danny,

You reference the World 14.1 qualifiers.

Do you have any info on the details of these qualifiers. I cannot find anything thru' Dragon Promotions.

Thanks.
