World Championships, Lansing, 1978

I bet you didn't know that the World 9-Ball Championships were held in Lansing, Michigan in 1978.

Of course it wasn't really a World Championship but the entry was affordable. I think another World Championship was held in Japan that year that Jim Rempe won. There was no real international sanctioning body for either event, but I think I'd be more proud of winning the one in Japan.

$500 first prize in 1978.
A friend of mine bought a brand new Szamboti for $360.00 in 1979.
I thought he was nuts spending that much on a cue.

My $30 Viking I had at that time played just fine.

Did your Vike have mother-of-pearl in it? Every one i saw back then had mop in it. Lot of them did have nylon wraps.

I dont remember if it had mother-of pearl ,I'm lucky I remembered the cue at all .LOL.
