while I agree and feel the frustration myself for not having live-streams out of the event, I have to say that I can understand Matchroom.
Let's say you are running a tournament of that caliber and you get a chance to make a deal with a big television-producer that is willing to broadcast the event LIVE to tens of millions of people. Perhaps they are willing to put even money on the table that will help you cover not only the costs but also the prize-pot to some extent. In exchange they however request exclusivity in broadcasting for the event.
At the same time, you have another option where you would need to hire a company to do the shooting, commentators, broadband connection for the site to a media-server that can take thousands of simultaneous connections from all over the world....but you would be broadcasting live across the world through internet.
Option one gives you money in pocket plus audience measured in millions OR option 2 that is only going to cost you because even if you go PPV, you would probably have to have at least 1,000 subscribers just to break even.
So...in my opinion....while unfortunate, I can understand Matchroom if something like above has taken place.
In addition I would like to thank Matchroom for continuing to generate TopClass pool-events across the world. Having visited a few of them myself I can only say that the work they do is first class.
They are a professional company that has to make money in order to survive and I would rather have them going on making top-of-the-class events way into the future than try to make everyone happy and end up quitting pool altogether due to financial reasons.
just my 0.02cents worth....
