World Cup of Pool

Tomorrow, at 1pm, semifinals

Phil B vs China
Phil A vs Germany

Then at 5pm, the Finals!

Will it be an all-Filipino Finals? Not if Team Germany has anything to say about it! Stay tuned!

It would be a treat for the Filipino fans to see both of their teams in the finals. BUT team Germany is not an easy task.

My pick is team Philippines B! Go Bata and Django!

That will be 1 am Eastern, or 10 pm Pacific for me...

I do not see the stream...this sucks.

I turned on Sopcast to see if I could get lucky with it on some other channel, but no luck.

A consolation prize may be the Women's World 10 Ball Championships on ESPN Asia.

None of the links to the stream are working for me and I've upgraded Silverlight...anybody have any suggestions?

Go to punchsports.net, click on the link that says "World Cup of Pool - click for live stream", then on the next page, click the play button on the video window that appears to have boxing on it (or at least it did when I pulled it up).

For the latecomers, here's the official site that provide a play-by-play:

It's between the Philippines A (Efren & Django) vs. Germany (Ralf & Thorsten) for the 2009 World Cup Of Pool finals!

Philippine team B just lost its semifinal match with Germany. Dennis Orcollo and Ronnie Alcano played well enough to reach the last four. Each had his share of errors in losing to Ralf and Thorsten.

However, Dennis, a fine singles player, clearly has a lot to learn as a scotch doubles player. During the first round, he was looking over the shoulder of Alcano (figuratively speaking because Ronnie towers over Dennis) and often dictating how Ronnie should play a shot. This is quite insulting, Ronnie having already won the world 9ball and 8ball, titles which Dennis has yet to win himself. And in most of the matches, Dennis almost always takes a time extension in every game, overthinking even simpler shots, and in the process depriving his partner of an extension himself when he needed one.

Not knocking Dennis either, but I would rather have Ronnie paired with Alex. Pagulayan almost always makes everybody, including his opponent at ease or relaxed. The tension Dennis brings on the table because of his slow play, probably due to some indecision or lack of confidence seems to rub off on his partner, not good when playing Scotch Doubles.

He was also paired with Django last year with no luck too...
