The World Cup in Porto is down to the Main Tournament of 32 players.
I was surprised that Jorge Theriaga didn't play. Does anyone know why?
The talk of the tournament is the play of the Korean In-Won Kang. He was so lightly regarded that he had to play through four rounds of qualifications. In the pre-pre-pre-qualifier he won his group averaging 1.764. In the PPQ he won with a 1.224 average. In the PQ he won and averaged 1.578. In the final qualification he wound up in a group with Andreas Efler of Austria and Luis Aveiga of Ecuador -- both world-class players of much experience. He beat Aveiga averaging 1.461, then lost to Efler despite averaging 1.809. Although he had the highest average in the group (1.617) he lost out to Efler on net sets won. Has anyone ever heard of this Korean player?
