World Darts Championship.....................

Not sure I'd agree with darts getting big because of Luke. MVG was doing insane things before Luke was playing.
I agree,he went through a period i think it was 16,17,18 and 19 those years were he was untouchable.then everybody caught up. He won everything. He didn't win as many world championships, i thought he would. Not to say, he can't win many more! I was never a fan, i could never get past his personality. But you definitely respect, how good he was then. I just mean he has not had the impact that littler has had. He just makes it look so easy.

I’ve been watching this for 25 years. It’s a Christmas tradition at our house. We love it. I don’t even play darts anymore but I still watch. This brings up a thought though. Same guys running PDC and WNT. Been 25 years of them growing the game of dats. Unquestionable, Darts has grown. However, the state of darts here in the US isn’t much different than 25 years ago. Do they really make an effort or pay lip service? Curious if it will be the same with pool.

fast action makes it to tv. slow pace makes it to the dumpster.
unless pool has exciting players and fast action the the viewer can understand and get into, it will die of a thousand cuts because narrow minded people control it for only a small amount of company interests.

I've said this before, but let's thank Barry Hearn for liking pool so much that he wanted to see it as part of the matchroom portfolio. From my understanding, it's really not much of a money maker for him but he loves pool.
He got started with snooker, got rich with Steve Davis. He loves all cue sports. He loves making deals-n-cash even more.

This is my view as well, it started with the mosconi and world pool masters, 1999 was his first big world championships in Cardiff wales. That one, was exciting!! How you compare it to, todays game, you shouldn't, different era, different time in my opinion.

I'm just posting to show just how big/popular the game is. Its being shown on a national network, NBC, in the heart of football season. That's some pull. Will pool EVER be on a football Sunday? Pipedream right now. Its not a live show but it being on national tv is still pretty big.
There's a large showing at one of the halls I visit.
Highly competitive Dart Leagues with their own jerseys and these guys look serious. Larger numbers than I expected . Along with the pool leagues keeps the joint jumpin. 😁

the best darting pool player is probably (and surprisingly) ko ping han, the youngest ko brother. it seems he's chosen pool over darts now but he competed in darts in taiwan for 3-4 years before choosing pool

I played a lot of darts 20 yrs or so ago in leagues, tournaments etc. Back then Phil Taylor was top man. Many consider him the GOAT.
MVG was just coming in then I think. Used to watch a bit also. The many different styles of throwing were interesting. Don't get me started on darts with the different weights, flights, grips and shapes....

That documentary has already aired in the UK, it is a great watch. Darts is there biggest earner.
I was surprised, snooker didn't get more attention, other than the stuff in saudi with the golden ball.
It was a good insight, to see how they run the business.
