World Pool Champion (formerly known as World 9 Ball Champion) next month will take home $60K, highest winner's cheque for any rotation event this decade.

There have been bigger winner's cheque in past decades though.

Still, though, it is pretty strong given the last 10 years that we'll have--in the next 6 weeks--a

World Champion at 10-Ball earning $60K, and a
World Champion at 9-Ball earning $60K

The story here is not who wins these big prize checks but the fact that top pool players can, at long last, make a decent living again. Based on the AZB money list, the ten highest earners a year ago combined to earn about $1,000,000. Don't be surprised if that number is over $2,000,000 this year.

The elite players will have a much easier time justifying the cost of overseas travel to compete. The disheartening days of needing a top eight finish just to earn a profit may be behind us soon, and the world's top players (let's say that means Matchroom's top 32 and all others with Fargo of 785+) should all have an easy time justifying the cost of participation all over the globe.

Speaking as a fan, I'm happy because the event fields will be stronger than ever, especially when we get the long-awaited return of the many elite Asians who were grounded by COVID.

Good times are here for pro pool and the top players should be more motivated than ever before to a) keep their skills as sharp as possible and b) to address any weaknesses in their games. Thanks to ambitious producers and sponsors, pool's ship is starting to come in. Yippee!

Here's a Matchroom announcement about the tables. 4.25 inch pockets.

Matchroom is delighted to announce Diamond Billiards as the Official Table & Light Provider for the 2022 World Pool Championship this April 6-10 at the Marshall Arena, Milton Keynes, England.
Diamond’s partnership with Matchroom has gone from strength to strength with the US-based manufacturer providing 34 tables for the US Open Pool Championship and it will now see the tables become the official World Pool Championship table for the first time in the new era.
The 2022 World Pool Championship tables will be tougher than ever with the corner pockets measuring at 4.25 inches as part of the Nineball vision in producing standardized regulations for the ranking events.

Matchroom seems to be using Diamond (rather than Rasson) tables for all its large events. The WC is on 16 tables.

I looked at attending this a while ago, and rooms in the connected hotel were only about $80. It's about 30 miles north of London.

Story that I heard was Rasson can't do bulk orders like Diamond.

And with "Shark grey" cloth :censored:

Interesting. So last year WPC used Predator tables. Then Predator just last month sponsored Matchroom Premier League Pool.
They were like "coopetitors" before but now may be more like competitors now. They are both chasing the same calendar and same set of players for their tours -as they expand their tours, they will overlap in event dates as there is little room in the calendar to manoeuvre
