World Pool Championship - Bahrain 2027

They should give the event to the WPA and Predator who already run the world 8 & 10 ball championships.
Otherwise it’s just a name for another stop on the tour

WPA and Predator don't know how to promote events.

Reyes Cup has received more attention than the World 8 Ball and World 10 Ball championships.

Reyes Cup is just entertainment, good entertainment but still,just entertainment.

A world championship should have a more sports approach to it and I think that the WPA are doing a fine job.

Back in the day when MR basically only did the Mosconi and the World 9Ball Championships, it stood out among the other pool events.
Today, it’s just another event that looks the same with a different backdrop.
It so insignificant to MR that they don’t hold it this year because they were too busy with other events that are more entertaining.

I like MR and what they are doing, but not all is great.
The world 9ball championship should be the most lucrative event.

i guess there are no military bases left to bomb in bahrain, so in that sense it ought to be safer than saudi. but how about getting out of the area altogether? and never returning
 
The big winner of this is Carlo Biado that after a rather poor year, he is still the reigning world champion
 
The WPA is a sanctioning body, they don't run the event they use various promoters to run the tournament. This event will be WPA sanctioned but run by MR. The Pred stuff is same deal, run by Pred and sanctioned by WPA.

Yeah but if this event is not of the highest importance to MR, give it to Predator.

WTF. What makes you think its not important to MR? You do know that the event was given to MR in perpetuity(forever) in 2020. The '26 event was cancelled because the Saudi's SBSF and MR cancelled their agreement not leaving time to get new location. I'm not big fan of these Arab events( nobody liked going to Qatar from all i heard) but the Bahrain money must be there. IMO Predator would not do a better job here.

This yr was cancelled because the Saudi pool /billiard assoc and MR couldn't come to terms on a multi yr plan. Just business. MR isn't stupid, they got the multi year deal they wanted.
 
I might go to this event.

Bahrain looks like a nice place to go.

Emily mentioned on the WNT Broadcast that she's going to make a fanzone for this.

Great chance to meet all of the top players in the world.

I wonder if the Ko brothers are going to try and get an invite for this? I have a feeling Emily wouldn't let them play.

I don’t think that’s right. My recollection of the reporting was that MR was in the middle of a long term deal with the Saudis but the Saudis decided to get out of most or all of their sports ventures and basically paid MR to cancel it. I believe the reporting was also that at least a few years of the money going forward was paid.

But obviously MR wanted a new long term partner. I don’t love the location (because of likely lack of local fan support) but who else is putting up that kind of money?

Same thing killed LIV golf. No bucks, no Buck Rogers as they said in 'The Right Stuff' Regardless of the details bottom line is the Saudi's bailed and Bahrain is new spot. TBH i wouldn't get out of the electric chair to go to ANY of those 'oasis'.
 
I guess that the people at MR don’t watch the news…
I have a feeling that this will be canceled a few weeks before the planned date.

Kudos to MR for making this happen. It is a huge payday for pool, something we all want to see happen.

April 2027 is a long way off, but the current climate in that region of the world, you couldn't pay me a million dollars to fly there, much less stay in the region for a few days.

Not to make this thread political, but a whole lot can happen in the Middle East between now and then, hopefully for the better.
