World Snooker Championships 2014

And they break early with Selby in the lead, 12-11.

The last frame was a battle of misses and snookers (some intentional; some not) but O'Sullivan had it locked up, needing only an easy blue and an even easier pink to secure the frame and head into the evening session with the lead and a much needed boost of confidence.

He stepped to the table, made the blue, but for some reason he hammered the pink WAY too hard, rattled it, and left the pink and the black for Selby who took them off with no issue.

They go into the break 12-11 in Selby's favor. O'Sullivan has looked BADLY rattled all day. Hopefully, a pep talk from Dr. Steve Peters will get him focused and back into a decent mental state.

Selby 12 Ronnie 11

Dinner break after playing only 6 frames in 3.5 hrs

The 2 p.m. EDT session could have 12 frames

Say 7 hours, starting at 7 p.m. UK - should finish up about 2 in the morning.

This is going to take a lot of popcorn.

Yes much popcorn and maybe a magazine. Some nice safety battles with several misses and fluke safes from both. Sad to have missed Selby shining in the early frames.

He's been playing great this match. Truly solid all morning/afternoon today, only rattling a bit towards the end. But still, very much outplaying O'Sullivan.

UGLY thought here, Ronnie missed that last pink on purpose ($$$$) and will come back and SMOKE Selby

this is not without precedent and Ronnie is no saint

weak mental game? no I don't buy that at this stage of his career

do i feel bad throwing this idea out there? not really, ronnie's a genius and best ever but still a jerk off

I don't think he missed on purpose... I think he tried to slam it in like an idiot and just screwed up. Come on Mark!!

ps: they both needed this break badly.

Agreed on both accounts. I don't think he dogged it on purpose. I think he's just a bit frustrated and he attempted to slam it home.

But the slamming ended up undoing him even more.

Mark Selby 12-11 ahead of Ronnie O'Sullivan

Just like John Virgo says you can take nothing for granted in this game but who would've thought that Ronnie would miss the potting that last pink in the last frame ?

Ronnie's head looked gone and it might be just as well it happened in the last frame of the session and he can refocus and get some advice from Dr Steve Peters.

For the record their layers quote is:

8/11 Ronnie V Mark 11/10.

Well, I bet on Mark at the outset of the tournament. I'm not gambler so I only put 10 on him for a little fun. If Mark wins this I get $105.

I've never not wanted $105 so much.

Go Ronnie lol

Selby is just firing them in now. Outplaying Ronnie in all aspects. Ronnie looks like he's already counted himself out of this and is making mistake after mistake.

Its 15-12 now. Selby within 3. O'Sullivan still needs 6. Its not looking too good for Ronnie at the moment.

Snooker is a war game...like boxing.
Sometimes, when you're fighting a man who is famed for his knockout punches.....
...you move in close and work on the body...

Selby is going to the mat.

The loneliest place in the world.....

Sitting in the chair hoping for the opponent to miss but it just doesn't happen.

Nice 127 break from Mark Selby to lead 16-14.

Some pot on the yellow down the cushion by Ronnie in the last frame.

Bruising contest

It's been a tough battle but what's that red mark at the side of Ronnie's right eye ?

Wonder how that got there.

Back up against the wall time for Ronnie as he trails 17-14.

Hats off to Mark Selby. He played the kind of snooker this past week that would have made it difficult for Ronnie even is he was playing his best.

Great way to cap off a great run by Selby.

Did Selby get the clearance from the black to the 2 reds on the end rail or did he have to play a safety.

Go to the top of the class my friend Cameron Smith !:cool::thumbup:

I bet Mark Selby the other year at the World Championships E/W but he crashed out early doors & for some reason I didn't follow up this year !

There's alway's somebody somewhere who picke the winner so well done Cameron on your cash windfall !:cool::thumbup:

Pleased to meet you Lonestar_jim !

Safety play was more grueling and entertaining. After 14&15 I was expecting more, but happier to see a close final. Its Ronnie's to lose if Selby keeps his break building sub par.
Thanks for the story on the ref., church66 !
