Well the world championships are upon us again and for all those excited or interested I thought I would start up a thread to discuss it.

Unfortunately I don't get to watch any of the coverage as I live in Canada, so i have to be content to read about it online :(.

So who do you think is gonna win? The draw is as follows

Shaun Murphy vs. James Wattana
Steve Davis vs. Andy Hicks
Jimmy White vs David Gray
Peter Ebdon vs Michael Holt
Matthew Stevens vs Joe Swail
Ken Doherty vs Berry Hawkins
Alan McManus vs. Marco Fu
Stephen Maguire vs. Mark King
Stephen Hendry vs Nigel Bond
Graeme Dott vs John Parrott
Stephen Lee vs Ali Carter
Paul Hunter vs Neil Robertson
John Higgins vs Mark Selby
Mark Williams vs Anthony Hamilton
Joe Perry vs Ryan Day
Ronnie O'Sullivan vs Dave Harold

Steve Davis and Jimmy White would have to be the sentimental favorites to win, but I can't see it happening. The guy with the best odds is probably John Higgins as he has had a superb season. Its never a good idea to count out Stephen Hendry, even though he doesn't win much anymore.

I dunno who do you guys think will win?

This is a tough one, normally I'd go with O'Sullivan as he's the most talented player but he's been playing badly lately. John Higgins seems to be playing the best as of late but he has probably the toughest road to the finals, after the first round he won't
have one easy match. So my pick is Matthew Stevens, in the past 6 years he's finished in the top 4 or better 5 times at the crucible. He seems to like the arena and the long matches.

Of course I'd give anything to see Jimmy White win it but that's probably too much to ask.

Bobby

I also would give (almost) anything to see Jimmy White win it.

I am hoping Jimmy wins it (have done since the early eighties!) but will pick Ken Doherty to snap it off.....come on ken...do it for the Dubs!!

I don't think anyone deserves a world championship win more than Jimmy White. With something like seven appearances in the finals, he is definately the best player to have never won a world championship.

I would also love to see Steve Davis win it one more time and match Hendry's record. But I don't think he takes it seriously enough to win the big one anymore.

The Championships are actually live over the internet, the bad thing is only those from Britain can watch the coverage!

I think it must track your IP address or something, so if anyone knows how to change their IP address to one in Britain, you can watch the Championships live online!

PS Go Ronnie!

Ya, do you know why the bbc doesn't allow anyone outside the uk to watch the championships? Makes it difficult to get new fans if you ask me.

It is because the BBC is a unique broadcaster in that there are no commericals. Funding to the BBC is provided by a license fee of £131.50 paid by all UK households. That is why Internet streams are UK customers only, as they are paying for the service.

The BBC have a broadband news service that International customers can pay for (but it's free in the UK).

What happened to Ding? I guess he did not make it through.

I would go with John Higgins, but I like Ronnie O Sullivan's game, and he is never to be underestimated.

What about Marcu, anyone think he has a chance? I know it is a long shot...but he is a Canadian and he is also Asian. I actually watched him play a lot when he was living in Vancouver. I even watched him run a 147 right in front of me!

Ding lost in his final qualifying match to Alistair Carter.(I think)

I tipped Higgins to win this, but he's down 6-3 now, i actually hope he loses, but i still tip him to comeback and win the event.

My wildcard tip is Neil Robertson, a fellow Aussie, who I used to play against on occassion in our premier pool league when he was about 14.

Neil Robertson is a friend of mine from Melbourne. I have been watching him play for over 10 years (since he was about 15). I visit from the USA about once a year and I have been teaching him a little "one pocket" from time to time...he really seems to like it. He is one of the smartest players I have ever seen...when he makes a mistake, he remembers and does not make it again. This season he has been staying in about 13th position in the snooker list. I think he will do well in the tourney. During the last two years he has had a few perfect 147's !!!

Really? I like his game alot better now :D. I've never actually seen him play before, but I expect he has as much of a chance as any. He was top 16 last year.

I do believe that any of these 32 players can win it on their day. The idea that the world championships are more difficult to win than any other ranking event is rubbish. The make up of the competitors is the same as any other, 16 of the top players in the world with 16 qualifiers. I think it all comes down to your mindset.

Its not like the World 9 ball championships or the US Open where there are more players than any other event.

There is audio coverage of the World Champs, and some video highlights at http://www.eurosport.com/snooker/

Also, check out the story on the players in Ian Doyle's camp who are refusing media appearances due to World Snooker pulling their rights to wear some of their sponsor's logos.

Stephen Lee, Graeme Dott and defending champ Shaun Murphy are through to the round of 16. It looks like Ken Doherty is going to sail through as well he is leading 8-1.

John Higgins (my pick) has an up hill climb trailing 6-3 as does Mark King trailing Stephen Maguire 6-3.

Steve Davis is currently leading Andy Hicks 6-2 (GO STEVE!!!!!). As I mentioned before I would love to see Steve win it again, though that my be too much to ask.

Its looking bleak for John Higgins as he is one frame away from elimination. Im changing my pick to Ronnie.

Steve Davis on the other hand is up 8-4.

GO STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Higgins is out after being beaten by qualifier Mark Selby 10-4. Steve Davis made it past Andy Hicks with a score of 10-4. Davis will now play Shaun Murphy in a rematch from last years World Championship quarter final.

Hendry out 10-9 in First Round to Nigel Bond!

What a final frame, it lasted 40 minutes, Nigel had a 7 point lead going down to the final black, he potted it.....

But went in off (scratched) into the side pocket!!!

Respotted black, Hendry let Nigel in, and Nigel potted a fantastic shot into the side pocket to win an amazing last frame.

Well done Nigel Bond!
