Ding responds with a century....11-10 Selby.
...some magnificent snooker here...and Steve Davis commentates as well as he played.

Mud...Ontario isn't very far from you...get out your passport.

We have a match, both firing centuries at each other.. now just 1 frame apart 11-10 Selby

Selby came up with some brilliant shotmaking and long pots to lead 14-11 going into final session
It is big uphill battle for Ding now. He needs to win 7 of remaining 10 frames in final session

Mark Selby (Eng) 14-11 Ding Junhui (Chn)

First session (6-2): 125-8 (91), 70-68 (Junhui 52), 101-43 (76), 120-0 (120), 100-0 (70), 77-38, 47-68, 14-107; Second Session (10-7): 73-22, 30-92 (76), 1-103 (103), 49-93 (89), 71-1, 0-86 (86), 52-82 (55), 86-25, 67-27.

Final session starts 1 hour from now :D

Mark Selby world champion 18-14.

Yup. Final session went just 7 frames, with Selby winning the first two and last two and Ding taking the middle three. Frame scores (Selby first), with high breaks in parentheses:

103 (57) - 0
67 (36) - 60 (60)
0 - 87 (73)
0 - 108 (70)
0 - 103 (103)
59 (20) - 11 (7)
74 (74) - 0

Edit -- They made only one century in this final session. But I checked the worldsnooker website, and Selby had two in the finals (126 and 120) while Ding had three (all 103). In the 32 frames, Selby had 10 breaks of 50 or more (and won all 10 of those frames), while Ding had 13 breaks of 50 or more (but lost 2 of those frames).

some thoughts on Ding, in the past, he's won everything but the World's and achieved number one status as far as rankings and he's still only 29

he is as technically perfect as it gets and is THE guy to learn from and copy regarding fundamentals

he has good years left to make another go at this tourney

the days of single dominance are over, the field is just beyond too good at this point

oh and Selby is a BEAST

A lot of people might not like Selbys antics but you can't deny his greatness .. It's funny how mentally some of these world Champion Snooker players are missing a screw or 2 wonder if he has a sports shrink like Ronnie O has paydays in Snooker affords that unlike American pool where Earl could certainly use one

I see over in the snooker forum that the total estimated viewership for the Championship was something like 300 million. Most of that seems to have been Chinese.

The world rankings operate on a two-year 'rolling' system, meaning that this year Selby came into the World Championship facing the prospect of having to defend £300,000 of his ranking total following his maiden Sheffield success back in 2014. In fact had he lost in the early stages of the tournament, Selby faced the prospect of dropping down to as low as seventh position in the ranking list.

Significantly, Selby's achievement means that he has now finished the season as world number one for a fifth successive year, a feat matched only by Ray Reardon, Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry before him.

also becomes the first player to retain the number one ranking for a complete season since the introduction of 'rolling' rankings following the 2010 World Championship.

That's huge. I wonder what kind of ratings when a chinese player isn't in the finals.
