World Snooker Proffesional Championships 2012

Carter wins 13-12!

One of the best snooker matches I have watched in my life. Period. Congrats on both

Trump V Carter

If you don't want to see the final score then look away now. No,that's not fair to those who only get to see the match highlights.;)

I agree. You could see the "pucker factor" go up on Ali after the third snooker by Judd. He was sweating bullets as we would say here in Texas realizing Judd just needed one more snooker.

The young players make so many balls...they haven't learned to play
an end game.
Allie played like he couldn't lose when Judd needed 4 snookers....
...and almost lost...missed leaving a free ball by a fraction when he
was 39 up with 35 on the table.
Judd lost the last game to Higgins last year when John needed a 5 point
snooker....he kept giving John a another chance at a snooker till one
succeeded.

Years ago, many players had to learn the hard way to close a match...
...no reason to learn by trial and error now...videos and coaching are
available.

Yes, I didn't understand why Ali didn't just try and slow roll the last red into the pocket, though it was very difficult, he did have a shot. I guess he was trying to snooker Judd or thought it was over?

Going by your AZ name, I'm not surprised that you understand about
closing a game...most 1-hole players do after they've lost a few7-0
leads 'cause they didn't send the balls 'up-town'.

Like you say, Allie missed several opportunities to roll it over a hole...
..which makes it difficult to play a snooker.

Dennis Taylor played a great end game in the 80's...he must be squirming
watching this nonsense.

I thought the prompt turnaround in playing level by Jamie Jones during the 15 minute break of his match today with Higginson was a little strange. Hopefully, my suspicions are unfounded. I didn't particularly care who was victor in that match but was sort of rooting for Higginson after he made a noble comeback attempt in winning 4 straight.

Maybe he downed a 5-Hour energy drink.

Quarter Final Odds

The draw :

http://www.sportinglife.com/snooker/worldchampionships2012/draw/

The bookies must reckon that the winner of Ronnie V Neil takes the title.

Quarter final match odds :

Ryan Day (26/19) V Matthew Stephens (8/11)

Stephen Maguire (4/7) V Stephen Hendry (13/8)

Jamie Jones (11/4) V Ali Carter (4/11)

Ronnie O'Sullivan (4/6) V Neil Robertson (6/4)

So out the last 8 players you could have had Ronnie,Neil,Maguire to get there but Day,Stevens and Jones, haven't did much over the season. Then Carter and Hendry who haven't turned up until this tournament.Lots of shock results so far,be good to see how many favourites reach the Semi Finals.

Trump V Carter

What the hell is in the drinking water these days?
If Carter can't take a win gracefully, how's he going to take a loss.

I think Carter is the one who got lucky...Trump still under the weather.

Ali lucked out when Judd missed too many from 12-9 up and then just when you though Judd had no chance he started to land some good snookers in the final frame. There has been a lot of word play and shock results this year. The bookies must be putting vodka through the players water.;)

Heh heh heh. Maybe. I am going to go with wishful thinking and root for the opposite.

Usually I'd encourage everyone to back the precise opposite of my tips, but Hendry is 6-0 down and I can't see Ronnie sustaining his form against Williams against Robertson this afternoon.

More generally, I think this is a strange time for snooker. The old guard are all finished, and there's no obvious new breed waiting in the wings. Trump is clearly not the player we were expecting, Ding chokes, Allen's head goes, as does Maguire's. Selby's not a consistent winner.

Robertson will dominate the game for a decade if he wants to.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. The temptation must be enormous.

I think you need to give these guys a break. The game has changed somewhat and things are just shaking out right now. These guys are the new breed. They just aren't the new breed you were expecting. Give them time.

Stephen Hendry gets crushed 13-2.
He couldn't get anything together.
As an older player, I think he should lighten up.....
...Fred Davis still had fun into his 70's..and the audience did too.

Yeah, I watched that match from start to finish. I actually felt sorry for Hendry. To say he was having a bad day is an understatement. We all go through those time no matter what is done is wrong, but he had it in spades on this match. I saw where he has announced his retirement?
