...maybe attendance would rise come the weekend....and the finals

I highly doubt this. If the round of 64 and 32 pictures that I saw show anything - it' shows this was a failure as from a spectator supportive point-of-view. It is sad that all these people writing articles about the WBTC are praising it as being so highly successful, yet at the same time making a hard effort in openly criticizing/discrediting the BMPAP and the top name players in the Philippines.

They are trying to make like Jericho Banares and Pulpul are the "new" top guns in the PI which is hilarious.....someone ask either of them if they would play ANY top BMPAP player? Ask either of them who they idolize and who is their favorite player...I gaurantee you they both will mention at least one if not all of the top BMPAP players. It's all just a stupid effort to make like there are more "top" players that are either equal or can surpass the top BMPAP players. Hahaha, these guys don't even compare - not even close - maybe in time - but to proclaim them as "top" players in the PI is ridiculous.

Please Ted/Yen/Ian you won't fool any of us "knowing" people. I like to think that AZ is full of very knowledgeable people...so keep your bs away. I/we will not be fooled by your twisted/untrue/biased/disrespectful articles. In fact, all it does is the opposite what you are trying to do - I look at you guys as the "bad" guys - the BMPAP's silence and non-response to your antics are louder than anything you can write.

The BMPAP can say nothing (they don't have too) I will believe them everytime.

I don't want to take sides here and I'm not on anyone's payroll. My take on what happened this week is as follows.

Yes it was relatively empty at the start of each days play, the photos above can attest to that. If the same photographer had chosen to do so, he could have taken photos at night when Yang battled back to win his match to make the final 16 (the upstairs arena was packed) or when Wu took on Shane or Mika downstairs.

During the finals, I would guess the crowd at three to four hundred total. Nothing like last year at Araneta. It would have helped for a filipino to have been in the match. No question, the home boys bring out more people. Still I was glad to see people there to watch a great match.

Of course, there were a few MILLION people watching this tournament on television. And that's only in the Philippines. Millions more watched is 34 other countries. Pool does get good ratings in Asia. I bet the numbers in Taiwan and China were huge.

What DID happen here this week is that a major pool tournament took place with major league prize money. I will bet it ALL gets paid also! I have seen evidence of that. And major league players from all over the world participated. And the final match is right up there with the greatest finals of all times. Just ask one of the champions who sat there watching it. Like Ralf, Shane and Niels who sat through the whole thing.

Sure I would have liked to see Dennis and Ronnie in this fray, but rarely is there a tournament where every top player attends for one reason or another.

What did you see Jay? A piece of paper stating a certain amount? Checks being handed over to players? Bank reciepts that show fund transfer to players' bank accounts? A MOA that a company is sponsoring and will pay up in 90 days after they check the media values that they got? Heads up boys and girls!

A complaint was already sent to us about the WTBC referees not receiving food and transportation allowances and not getting paid yet for their services rendered. Payment date unspecified.

You're more entrepreneur than player now Jay so you should be able to recognize financial documents. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt but you're placing quite a bit of your reputation on the chopping block if something goes wrong with the players' prize money payment Jay.

sad to say i missed the whole thing as i had to attend a wedding (you can bet i wouldn't have missed it for the world if the usual suspects were there). tried to keep up by watching the replay on tv, and there were some good pool played throughout, but the interest level just wasn't as high as, say, had alex or dennis or even any of the 2nd tier bmpap players, participated.

so, i guess the bmpap won this one and made their point clearly and resoundingly. let's just hope the powers-that-be were listening.....i think heads are going to roll.

i wonder what kind of spin we'll hear next....
