World wheelchair 9 ball championships underway

There use to be a very good wheel chair player around L.A. Area, his first AAROn. Wonder if he still is alive?

It's very unfortunate that no Americans were able to participate. There are rumors that it's because of a lack of sponsors. Also there is a Japanese player who couldn't take part in the competition, or so I've been told.

Finland is a quite expensive country and even the trip probably costs a lot, so I can understand that it's vital to get generous sponsors in order to make the trip.

The first day is in the books with great and exciting matches. The competition is being held at a shopping center and there were seemingly some early jitters as the settings were unfamiliar to the players. There were dozens of interested people stopping to watch the matches throughout the day and there is a big happening just outside the mall on the main street tomorrow, which should bring even bigger audiences.

Overall I'd say the day was a success and I believe the level of play will be even higher tomorrow as the players are acclimated to the surrounding buzz even better. The first matches will start at 10:00 AM local time, which is as early as 03:00 AM EST. (Now you know how us Finns feel when we'd like to watch American pool streams/football/basketball etc. :D )

The final match will be played on Sunday at 08:00 AM EST.
