Here is John Lavin's announcement from the tournament thread:

Red Shoes Billiards will be hosting a "QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT" for the 74th World Tournament of 14.1.on Saturday June 21st, 2014. This is a limited field (closed at FIRST 16 paid players). This is a double elimination (100 point games). one day ("IRON MAN") event. TOP TWO (2) finishers will QUALIFY. For Additional information CONTACT: John Lavin @ Red Shoes Billiards 12009 S. Pulaski Rd. Alsip, Illinois 60803 (tel.708-388-3700 or website: redshoesbilliards.com) ENTRY FEE: $105

I intend to play, and that will make the field just a little softer for good 14.1 players. The tables are in great shape. If you can't come to play then come to watch. The management is friendly, the burgers are good, full bar and video poker, and you'll get to see some great straight pool - not from yours truly but there will be some real players competing.

Good luck Rich. I was at Red Shoes about ten days ago and had a grand old time. It's an excellent room.

9Ball Jim from our forum has already paid his entry fee and will be coming up from Texas again for this event.

Mike Verkruyse from downstate Illinois has already paid, too and we look forward to having him compete for the first time.

Another guy paid, whose name I will get from John Lavin later today.

Bob Cozzolino, as usual is in. Tom Karabatsos likewise.

Rick Michalec, Sr. may be in. Ron Shepard may be in. Rich Klein may be in.

Dean Markoshan, one of Bob Cozzolino's students, is in.

I suspect the Pool Hall will be open for warm-ups by 9 a.m. but will verify later today.

Tournament goes off at noon.

Stay Tuned!

Saturday is the day!

Tomorrow is the day. Matches start at noon. Warmups 10:30 a.m.

Tom Karabatsos and Bob Cozzolino have signed up. Both have won qualifiers before. Rick Michalec, Sr. is a probable who has qualified out of Red Shoes before.

Jim Colling is coming up from Texas, Michael Verkruyse is coming up from Champaign, Illinois.

Ron Shepard who beat both Bobby Hunter and Tom Karabatsos in our just finished Straight Pool League is 50/50 to play. Dean Markoshian, one of Chicago's finest is representing the C.P.D.

Frank "Sailor" Stellman is working on getting transportation down from Racine, Wisconsin so he can wheel his chair into a good position to sweat some good old straight pool. Can't keep a good man down.

Jim Colling lost to Ronald Dobosenski who ran 41 and 38 and out.

Tom Karabatsos was down 60-20 but came back and beat Bob Cozzolino 100-82.

Michael Verkuyse beat Rick Michalec, Sr. 100-77.

Rich Klein beat Dean Markoshian and is playing Verkuyse now.

Winners

Michael Verkuyse came out on the winner's side after beating Tom Karabatsos 100-94. Tom came out on the other side and he ended up having to beat Bob Cozzolino once and Ronald Dobosenski twice. Congratulations to both Qualifiers. Good Luck at the World 14.1 Tournament!
