I started carrying a 9 ball around, kept one on the desk too. I would hold it and roll it around in my hand while doing other stuff.
This game IMO, is 10% physical, the other 90% is in the grey matter. We get so hung up on stuff sometimes, it creates a blockage/plateau.
A playing buddy I had years back had a great line. He was a strong B player, but showed up at an open tourney one time and played lights out.
I asked him, "What dafuq got into you?"
He replied, "I woke up this morning, and asked myself 'why cant it be you?" He couldnt come up with an answer, and he jumped up a couple of balls with that boost in confidence.
We have a local player that is very good, used to play in semi-pro/pro tournaments but got out of it for years but is back playing APA. People joke they need a patch that says "I beat a 12" (APA is maxed at 9 if you didn't know). I had played him twice before and lost both, close races hill/hill 8B (8B lost 5-3 (I needed 4) and 9B lost 75-48, I needed 55) but then we were scheduled again. I woke up that morning and said I'm kicking his ass today. Didn't practice all day, thought about pool all day, we all watched the other matches all night, he and I get up, I win the lag and proceeded to win 65-46 (he needed 75). I had come to the conclusion that if I just play my game I can beat him, I didn't care who my opponent was. Wish I could play like that every day.
