what's the worst tournament payout you've had? I played in a tournament recently that had a $20 entry and paid out $80/$50/$30. There were at least 20 some odd players. The poolhall allocated $5 of the entry toward food and another couple of bucks towards a green fee. This was fine and all, but in the end you're getting 1:3 on your money.

What an awful payout. There's a 9 ball tounament at Chris's in Chicago with an $8 entry fee, on Sundays, that had 32 players last night. If memory serves, payout was something like $110, $70, $35 and $35.

Sounds like that tournament you played in is more interested in raking in the cash than encouraging people to play.

Must of been

hard up for a tournament. Most players I know wouldn't
even consider a tournament that had a 4:1 payout. 10:1
payout and up is a good tournament, cosidering extra cost
too of green fees or quarters for the table. Some of these
so called handicap tournaments, mostly weekly, get out of
line by the time you pay $10 entry fee, and plug in $30
worth of quarters (for higher handicaps), and it pays $100.
Spending $40 for a chance to win $60 (minus drinks and food).
For most of the better players around, it is a profit and loss
thing first, then fun, and you have to maximize your odds
of having the most profit. Some Poolrooms are just cheapskates
when it comes to adding money to tournaments. We have 1
that only adds 25%, and another that adds 100%. Gee, which
one am I going to play in? Some pool rooms just cater to certain
handicap levels in their tournaments. It is more about participation
nowdays.

Plus better players that gamble have to consider the fact that they
can probably find a $100 set match that will only take them 45
minutes a set as opposed to a whole evening in a tournament for
much less profit.

Must be something in the dc air...I played one recently, $10 to get in, $40 first prize. Sad...

Must...not...quit...job:rolleyes: ;) :D

Ha Ha I just got off a cruse in the Bahamas. I played in the blackjack tourney one day. They must have had 100 people paying $20 entry and buying back for $20 (to get a third “free” entry) so they took in 3 -4 K in entry fees. The tourney was winner take all ...$500. Go figure.

I run monthly handicapped tournaments here in Fargo. 9-ball one month and 8-ball the next, on bar tables. No quarters.

Saturday we had 45 players for 8-ball. $20 entry. full field calcutta.

Saturday I paid out

1. 250
2. 180
3. 140
4. 100
5/6 70
7/8 40
9-12 20

extra tables with lots of cheap action all day and night.

fun time.

Cheap ass bas*&^%$

I played in a tournament a couple of months ago with a field of 15.

I came in 3rd and got a t-shirt on a $10 entry fee.

there were 2 other tournaments that night at other pool rooms I could have entered with a good chance of winning up to 100 beans.

I haven't played there since

Mike ... Sounds decent. You show $970 paid out with $900 in entry fees.
Did the house add money? And the paid out does not include the
calcutta? right? And what is your handicap range?

The house adds $200 and gets $3 per player as a greens fee.
A local league vendor adds $100
$2 per player goes to extra added $$ for twice-a-year championships

So the payout is $15 per player plus $300.

That payout does not include the calcutta. The calcutta was kinda meager, but it's still fun for some added drama: $480 that went

1. $192,
2. $144,
3. $96,
4. $48

Aggressively handicapped so everybody has some chance of cashing. Players raced to anywhere from 2 games to 8 games.

$160 payout, $40 table time, $100 towards food. Humm, thats $300 out.
20 players at $20 + $400. Somebody pocketed $100. How long did this tournament last?

Yeah I'm not sure what happened with the math there. Someone told me there was a $100 add too cause of the turnout. The tournament lasted 6 HOURS...and it was hard work!

Egg, that's only $10 an hour if you won it. I don't think there is anything on the lunch menu for $5 either. How much time between matches?

Derby City Classic has some of worst payouts. In 2002, a friend of mine got 4th place in the one pocket event out of about 400 players and got 1200. Its a great event, but lousy payouts....

ok here's my try to make u all cry.

i copy pasted from the rule segment of the BPBF (belgium national poolbilliard federation) these are the payouts for a national ranking. U need to qualify for the final 32 before u can even participate in the national finals of a ranking. u can count easily some 100+ players trying to qualify. Here is what the final 32 of my country can win. (sorry its in dutch, but i supose i dont need to translate it....).

The entree fee for a qualification is 15€ + 10€ for each aditional try.
As my country is pritty small, travel expenses are usualy around 20€ (qualify one weekend, finals other weekend, so double travel expenses (2*10€))
2 * 15€ for drinks and food (it starts at 10am till... late in the night for quali, + same again for the finals)
So total expenses for 1 quali = 15€ (fee) + 20€ (travel) + 30€ (drinks and food)= 65€

Here is the outcome:

1 ste Plaats 80€
2 de Plaats 50€
3 e & 4 e Plaats 35€
5 e tot 8 e Plaats 25€
9 e tot 12 e Plaats 20€
13 e tot 16 e Plaats 15€
17 e tot 24 e Plaats 0€
25 e tot 32 e Plaats 0€

dont think anyone can beat this :o

good thing about it? No player how good u are, plays for money in our country. We all play for the experience, the conviviality, the fun. The reason we all should play pool; for fun. Bad thing? how good u might be, no belgium player will ever be able to compete in a european or international level just because we cant afford the expenses, and its impossible (or close to, only 1 in my country and his earnings dont come from poolplaying, but from promotion work for aramith.) to be a pro player. Even if im sure the top3 players could give any US open player a hard time. Niels feyen got beaten by 2 players of our country when he came for the opening of a new poolhall.

The worst in recent memory was a name brand tour stop where there were 96 players. Entry was $55 + $2000 added. I think some people had to pay for their tour card too and $15 of it was green fees? That should have been $5840 minimum, asuming they took out $1440 in green fees.

Suddenly, the races went from 9 on both sides to only 6 on the winner's and 5 on the loser's. On Sunday, they raised them to 9 and 7. There was a lot of heat because of the short races. Some of the favorites exited early, like Mike, Dan Louie and JD.

Anyway, 1st was only $1000 with 96 players!!! Payouts came to exactly $4390. Now out of the $5840, $1450 is unaccounted for. And if the room put all the green fees back in and $2000 more was still added, then that is $2890 missing.
