Just wondering, because I clean my shafts with isopropyl alcohol and I sometimes accidentally wipe the tips.
Definitely a possibility. Alcohol is a decent solvent, and I imagine it'd do a job on laminated tips.

You probably want to switch to using denatured alcohol, it has no water added. Much better for cleaning the shaft and I don't worry about it moistening the tip.JMHO
Moistening the tip isn't the problem. Alcohol has the potential to dissolve the glue between the layers of the tip altogether.
