First thread, sorry its a dumb one.

I was just wondering if a super B complex vitamin (all the B vitamins) taken 1 hour to 30 minutes before league play would help either my pattern selection or my shot making ability.

I know that if I think it will help that it will help, thanks to the placebo effect, but I was wondering if it will actually help.

Thanks guys and gals, play well and good luck

Why do you think that would help?
Vitamins are not a miracle cure.
If you want to play better pool, workout, eat healty, practice with purpose, work on your weak spots and stay hydrated while playing!

Indeed they would, but your time line is dangerously incorrect. All vitamins, including the B-complex, should be taken precisely 47.5 (+/- .0375) minutes prior to any kind of planned pool playing, and that includes practice.
Synergistic-ally speaking, vitamin D, U, M, go well with B, and should also be considered. :)

I would just about bet that you are taking something that promotes awareness because about any energy drink you pick up and read the label is full of B vitamins. The more focused and aware you are I sure would help your play, you might have some trouble going to sleep though.

Get it in liquid form. Rub it on the shaft, not butt. It is okay if some gets on the tip..
Let us know if this helps.

Not sure if it will help but not a bad idea to try out. It won't help with your pattern selection or shot making but it could help with your focus which could improve both.

For long sessions or a pick me up I take a extra strength 5 hour energy, basically a shot of vitamin B.

Edit: Ignore the trolls, they have forgot what it can be like to be a new member. You will find some great stuff here and most aren't as bad as they come off sometimes. :)

Exactly,
My wife went to buying Vitamin Drinks one time. I would go out to mow and drink one about half way through. One day she mistakenly got a yellow colored one I couldn't see...the small xxx on the bottle. It was pure vitamin B and I was up 24 hrs....not a lot of fun, but I was ready to mow all the grass in the neighborhood lol.

Lmao, now she probably keeps them on hand for when she wants stuff done? :) I like 5 Hour Energy just because it's so portable but I've tried a few other ones and some of them are crazy. Now I'm going to have to search out this 24 hour energy for those really long days.

For 6 months I took daily:
B-6 50 mg
B-12 1000 mcg
Folic Acid 800 mcg

The doses were significantly higher than what you would find in a typical multivitamin. I took them to see if they would help with my chronic headache. I quit them a few months back as they made no difference that I could tell.

My headache is still here. My pool game still sucks.

I'd recommend a beta blocker (propanalol), removing dark sodas, and some strectching or exercises that focus on core strength.

To the OP. B Vitamins will help with focus, if you havent learned how to shoot, play patterns etc. then you don't have anything to focus on.

I imagine it depends on your diet and gut health. I was a vegetarian for a few years, and was slightly B deficient during that time. I started taking a B complex, and I noticed a substantial bump in mental energy and focus. If you are already getting plenty of B, you may not notice any difference.

Direct from Australia. Concentrated vitamin B - if you can get used to the taste, it becomes addictive.

"Stay hydrated" is really good advice. We think of it all the time with other sports, but no one mentions it in pool. IMHO, dehydration will affect your focus and concentration far more than an influx of B*.

And I know too many players who think "stay hydrated" means "drink beer". They wonder why they play well at the start of a tournament but can't close the deal. While part of the problem is the alcohol, a good portion is also the dehydration that comes along with it.

When I was in the Army, the unofficial motto was "drink water". You can't go wrong with nature's best!

And FWIW, I take a B-12 supplement every day (along with E, Zinc, Magnesium, and Protandum), but I don't attribute any of my pool playing skills to that fact.

I mainly have been using Ginkgo Biloba and Ginseng for years in various supplement forms, which has worked very well. I recommend the little one-shot bottles if you can find them. There are other things you can try, Max Eberle is a way more knowledgeable "bio-hacker" as it pertains to pool. He prefers Acai and Goji berry drinks. I did come across a supplement called i-focus not too long ago, and it was almost like legal adderall. I agree with the above statement about cutting out soda. That in itself is worth a lot. I drink plenty of water throughout the day in addition to my multivitamin, so I piss out any excess and prevent buildup in my system (I have no desire to ever experience kidney stones). Alcohol is also another thing to stay away from, just to keep yourself feeling in top shape. aside from that, I smoke and eat junk food, so I'm sure I'm limiting myself there.

A guy I went to school with used to inject himself with B6 about an hour before an exam. He said it had to be the injectable form, and that it helped glucose cross the blood-brain barrier better, which increased alertness and focus as a result. He was a curve buster for sure, and graduated with a 4.0 average in chemistry, but he wouldn't reveal his source of the injectable B6 for obvious reasons

I sometimes take high-dose sub-lingual B12, and I feel it boosts my energy levels. The active form is needed since a lot of vitamins are not easily converted to the active form in the body, especially as we age. I use 5000 mcg of cyanocobalamin, which is the active form of B12. I fact, Robin, I just took a dropper full because I have to go out and mow 4 acres of grass. I can already feel the stuff kick in. It ain't exactly a snoot full of snow, but I am definitely up to the task now. :)

For those in the upper Midwest, I recommend taking 5,000 iu of vit D several times per week. I have been on this dosage daily for about two years after the D level was dangerously low (16). I ended up in the ER with A-Fib. My Doctor told me that there were three others with the same situation, two were at 15 for vit. D.

It has helped my energy level. Before during tax season, I would need coffee in the afternoon, and often drank 6 cups per day. The next season after the increased D, I would not have more than two cups per day. My D level is now at 62.

I get a bottle of 400 pills for $10 at Sam's club.

Unfortunately, my game still sucks.

I had total hip replacements done in 2003. The material that the hospital gave me stated that I could play golf and dance after six weeks. Not true, I still can't do either.

Why is this a regional thing? Do we get all of our vitamin D from sunlight??

I don't know why this area is more prone to be deficient in vit. D. My doctor mentioned that from a line north of around Kansas City and west to the Dakotas/Nebraska. Not sure how far east, but think it was at least Indiana.

He thought 95% could take 5k per day without any problem. My level increased about 10 points during the past year. The top of the normal range is in the low 90's.

From a websearch:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3833588/

The IOM also stated that most North Americans “with a few exceptions” meet the minimal goal of a serum level of 20 ng/mL. Who are these exceptions? The most recent Center for Disease Control and Prevention's National Health and Nutrition Evaluation Survey (NHANES) data demonstrates that nearly 30% of black participants had profound vitamin D deficiency with serum levels of less than 10 ng/mL.8 In a study of 10 646 fully insured healthcare employees (>90% white) in the upper Midwest, 30% had levels less than 20 ng/mL and 6% had levels less than 10 ng/mL

Ever get an allergy test? I started getting headaches once in awhile last year. I found out I developed allergies after never having them. Started to take a 24hr Claritin, and they disappeared. Now I keep a box at work, home and in my case.
